    Abstract: A golf ball includes: a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag including an IC chip and an antenna; a protection layer surrounding the outer periphery of the RFID tag; a relaxation layer surrounding the outer periphery of the protection layer; a core surrounding the outer periphery of the relaxation layer; and a cover surrounding the outer periphery of the core. The curing temperature of the protection layer is 80° C. or less, and the protection layer is formed with a material having a hardness of Shore D 60 or more. The relaxation layer is formed with a thermoplastic elastomer-based material having a hardness with a difference from a hardness of a surface of the core on a side contacting the relaxation layer of Shore D 20 or less. The protection layer has an outer diameter of 3 to 16 mm, the relaxation layer has an outer diameter of 21 mm or less, and the core has a thickness of 8 mm or more.

    Abstract: A wound-core golf ball having a polyurethane cover is disclosed. The polyurethane cover is formed by curing a composition comprising a tolylene diisocyanate polyurethane prepolymer and dimethylthiotoluene diamine, and exhibits superior cut resistance. The wound-core golf ball of the invention further comprises a double-layered center having a diameter of 25 to 35 mm and a rubber thread layer covering the center. The center comprises an inner core layer having a diameter of 24 to 33 mm and a JIS-A hardness of 5 to 50, and an outer core layer covering the inner core layer and having a Shore D hardness of 10 and to 60. The wound-core golf ball thus constructed imparts a good shot feeling to the golfer and offers an increased flight distance.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved golf ball and a method of winding that includes measuring and controlling thread stress directly, rather than maintaining and controlling the level of tension on the threads. The golf ball includes a center, a wound layer that surrounds the center to form a wound core, and a cover that surrounds the wound core. The wound layer is formed of at least one thread, and the wound layer includes a plurality of radially extending sections, each section has a thread stress. The stress within each section is substantially constant, but at least two radially extending sections have different stresses. The method for winding thread onto a golf ball center to form a wound core comprises the steps of measuring a stress within a portion of the thread; winding the thread about the golf ball center while applying a force on the thread to form a plurality of portions with predetermined thicknesses and varying the stress between the portions.

    Abstract: A golf ball and a method of making a golf ball that includes a center formed from a material including polybutadiene and having a high resilience, at least one cover layer formed of a material including polyurethane, and at least one wound layer of a tensioned material windings between the center and the cover. The polyurethane composition is formed from the reaction product of at least a prepolymer of a polyisocyanate and a polyol, and a diamine curing agent. The polybutadiene composition includes a butadiene polymer with a resilience index greater than about 40 and a weight average molecular weight greater than about 200,000. Such golf balls can have a coefficient of restitution that is optimized for low swing speed players. The wound layer of the present invention may be applied to golf balls having liquid or solid centers to achieve desired golf ball characteristics.

While a spherical core body having the core enclosed within the intermediate layer is supported at the center of the mold cavity by the support pins, a cover stock is injected into the mold cavity. The support pins are withdrawn immediately before the mold cavity is filled with the cover stock.
