  • Patent number: 4566872
Abstract: The driving tension of a drive belt is maintained by axial force components applied to a pair of adjustable diameter pulleys about which the drive belt is entrained. A spring force is divided into such force components under control of relative torque loadings applied to the pulleys through drive shafts thereby also establishing a drive ratio that is automatically varied by relative adjustment of the pulley diameters.

  • Patent number: 4557707
Abstract: A belt tensioning device for an endless drive belt for a vehicle accessories drive system. A bracket is adapted to be mounted on an engine in a stationary position adjacent the drive belt and has lever means pivotally mounted thereon. An idler pulley is rotatably mounted on the lever means and is movable into belt tensioning engagement by a torsional coil spring telescopically mounted about the pivot for the lever means. The pulley is mounted so that a radial center line through the peripheral belt receiving surface of the pulley also passes generally through the center of the lever means pivot to reduce the frictional force exerted on the pivot. A brake band ring is mounted between the bracket and lever means and is biased by the torsional spring into a camming engagement with the lever means to provide a damping force when the lever means attempts to move in either a belt tensioning or non tensioning direction.

  • Patent number: 4531348
Abstract: A belt-type power transfer assembly for driving the separating mechanism of a rotary combine harvester is disclosed wherein the assembly includes spaced apart driving and driven pulleys, an endless flexible belt interengaged between the pulleys to transfer rotational power therebetween and spring-loaded tensioning means operably engaged with the flexible belt to take up the slack thereof and to maintain proper tension therein when transferring rotational power. Stop means are associated with the spring-loaded tensioning means for restricting biasing movement thereof in the direction of the flexible belt, causing the tensioning means to act as fixedly positioned tensioning means after an initial belt tensioning movement thereof. The power transfer assembly according to the invention may be used to drive the separating mechanism of a rotary combine harvester.

  • Patent number: 4459123
Abstract: Around an engine-body of a vehicle, several auxiliary machinery such as an air-conditioner and a power steering-pump are disposed. Pulleys of said auxiliary machinery are driven by means of an endless belt or endless belts by a driving pulley of the engine. In order to obtain the most effective operation of the engine, consideration should be given to the degree of the power loss for driving the auxiliary machinery. For this purpose, according to the present invention, the order by which said several driven pulleys are driven by said driving pulley is determined by the magnitude of the driven torques of the corresponding auxiliary machinery along the running direction of the endless belt toward the driving pulley.

  • Patent number: 4457269
Abstract: An engine camshaft is driven from the crankshaft through a timing chain such that the chain has a taut side and a slack side. A second chain is drive connected between the crankshaft and a sprocket member which is maintained on the camshaft by a one-way device. The second chain has a taut side and a slack side opposite the corresponding sides of the primary timing chain. During the engine operating cycle, a torque reversal occurs at the camshaft. The second chain prevents the torque reversal from loosening or overrunning the taut side of the primary timing chain. The one-way device permits adjustment of the primary timing chain due to wear while maintaining the taut side of the second chain.

  • Patent number: 4316307
Abstract: An end connector for a wire rope suspension system has a shifting mechanism for minimizing wear and has body members which inhibit undesired binding of loaded wire ropes internal to the connector. Two substantially identical body members are adapted to be preassembled in stages on the wire rope and then coupled together in place in the suspension system. Within each one of the body members is a sheave mounted to a journal bearing. The sheave bears the load of the wire rope on the body and can rotate under load to minimize frictional resistance to desirable displacement of the body piece relative to the rope ends. The end connector with displaceable load-bearing body members minimizes wear and increases the life of wire rope suspension systems.
