Coaxial Teeth Around Planet Pinion Engage Axially Spaced Relatively Rotatable Gears Patents (Class 475/338)
  • Patent number: 5328419
Abstract: The two-speed transmission (10) for driving an alternator or other engine accessory includes an enclosed gear case (12). An output shaft (28) passes through both ends of the gear case. Bearings (30, 32) supported on the gear case support the ends of the output shaft. A tubular input shaft (64) surrounds the output shaft and is journaled on the output shaft between the two output shaft support bearings. A planet gear carrier (86) is rotatably journaled on the output shaft inside the gear case. Compound planet gears (112) are rotatably supported by the planet gear carrier (86) with one planet (116) of each compound planet gear in mesh with a sun gear (84) on the tubular input shaft (64) and with a planet (118) of each compound planet gear in mesh with a sun gear (94) on the output shaft (28). A brake assembly (124, 136 and 142) is either applied to lock the planet gear carrier (86) to the gear case or is released to let the planet carrier rotate in the gear case.

  • Patent number: 5316525
Abstract: A method and apparatus is presented for harnessing power or force in a gear box or engine utilizing the power unit from the fulcrum of a lever in rotary motion. In accordance with the fulcrum gear assembly of the present invention, a first input gear is rotated in one direction and a second input gear is rotated in the other direction. The forces generated by the first and second gears are combined by third and fourth gears. The combined rotary forces are transferred to an output gear providing an output available on an output shaft. The output shaft being defined as a fulcrum results in a net gain in the rotary forces. Accordingly, the output of the fulcrum gear assembly is greater than the sum of its inputs.

  • Patent number: 5310391
Abstract: A transmission comprising a planetary gear mechanism wherein a plurality of planetary gears 6 are provided around a sun gear and meshed with the sun gear 5 and an internal gear 7 is provided outside the planetary gears and meshed with the planetary gears 6. The internal gear 7 consists of two split internal gears 7a, 7b divided by a plane perpendicular to its axial direction. Each of the plurality of planetary gears 6 consists of a large planetary gear 6a having a large diameter and small planetary gears 6b having small diameters and coaxially spline-coupled to the large planetary gear 6a in such a manner that the tooth portions thereof are positioned both sides of the large planetary gear 6a. The split internal gears 7a, 7b are meshed with the teeth of each small planetary gear 6b. The sun gear 5 is meshed with the large planetary gear 6a. An intermediate idle ring 11 is provided to each of the planetary gears 6 as a mechanism for equally distributing the load.

  • Patent number: 5242336
Abstract: There is disclosed a planet gear apparatus having a gear structure wherein a sun gear attached to an input shaft is a conical involute external gear, one of two adjacent ring gears differing slightly in inside diameter and number of teeth is a stationary ring gear fixed to the planet gear apparatus, the other of the two ring gears is a rotary ring gear rotating about an rotational axis of the input shaft, and a plurality of planetary gears are cylindrical involute spur gears. A rotational axis of each planetary gear is inclined at an angle to the rotational axis of the input shaft, and each planetary gear is meshed between the sun gear, on the one hand, and the two ring gears, on the other, while rotating about its own axis and revolving around the sun gear.

  • Patent number: 5133698
Abstract: The problem of reducing the number of parts and reducing the manufacturing costs of actuator arms in a power driven actuator system of a type including a planetary gear train (42), is solved by providing an elongate torque shaft (40) coupled to the gear train. A pair of ring gears (56a, 56b) are spaced longitudinally of the torque shaft (40) as part of the planetary gear train (42). Each ring gear (56a, 56b) has identical actuator arm mounting portions (64) facing in opposite axial directions of the torque shaft (40). A pair of asymmetrical actuator arms (16) project radially outwardly of the torque shaft. Each actuator arm has identical mounting portions (66) on opposite axial sides thereof complementary to the mounting portions (64) on either ring gear (56a, 56b) for interchangeably mounting either asymmetrical actuator arm on either ring gear to be driven thereby.
