Bar Held By Single Hand Of User (e.g., Dumbbell, Etc.) Patents (Class 482/108)
  • Patent number: 7491156
Abstract: A handle has enlargements between a central gripping section and cylindrically shaped opposed end sections. The opposed end sections have free ends formed with male screw threads for the minority of their axial extents. A pair of weights are similarly configured. Each weight includes an inner center, coated outer layer, and a central cylindrical bore, and bushings in the bore. A locking nut is coupled to each free end of the handle. The diameter of the free ends of the handle is less than the diameter of the bushings for the rotatable coupling there between. An end cap is secured with respect to each weight. Screws extend through each end cap and outer layer. The screws extend into the inner center to join the end caps with respect to the weights.

  • Patent number: 7182716
Abstract: A dumbbell including a tubular handle with a thread on the inside surface of the tube. A straight groove that cuts through the internal thread is also formed on the inside surface of the tubular handle. A stop plate is mounted on each end of the tubular handle. A pair of retainers are provided, each retainer being a shaft with a retainer plate on one end. Each shaft has a partial thread on its outside surface extending the length of the respective shaft. A weight plate stack is mounted on the shaft and the shaft is securely inserted into the tubular handle by aligning the partial thread with the groove, sliding the shaft through openings in the weight plates into the tubular handle, then rotating each shaft to where the partial thread on the shaft engages the interior thread of the tubular handle.

  • Patent number: 7172536
Abstract: An adjustable dumbbell includes a number of weights each having a slot to receive end portions of a bar, and a number of latch rods slidably engaged in the weights and each having an inner end engageable into the slots of the weights and engageable with the bar, to anchor and latch a selected number of the weights to the bar, and to allow the selected weights to be moved in concert with the bar. The weights each has a spring member to bias and force the inner end of the latch rod to engage with and to latch the weights to the bar. The weights each includes a panel having an orifice to slidably receive the latch rod, and to anchor the latch rod to the panel when the catch of the knob is rotated relative to the panel.

  • Patent number: 7153244
Abstract: This invention relates to a selectorized dumbbell having a handle that can be dropped down between nested left and right stacks of weight plates. The weight plates can comprise individual weights or a pair of weight plates, one from each stack, can be connected together to form a single weight. A selector is provided to allow the user to select a desired number of weight plates from each stack and couple such weight plates to the handle to provide an adjustable weight dumbbell. Each weight includes a weight frame having at least one carrier to which a commodity weight can be fastened. The dumbbell can be shipped by the manufacturer with empty weight frames to reduce shipping costs. When the dumbbell with empty weight frames reaches a destination, the dumbbell can be completed by securing commodity weights to the carriers on the respective weight frames.

  • Patent number: 7153243
Abstract: Discrete weight selecting members are movably mounted on a handle assembly and selectively rotatable into engagement with respective weight plates to provide adjustable resistance to exercise movement. Adjustable resistance to exercise is provided by rotatably mounting individual weight selectors on a bar, moving the bar into alignment with a group of weights, and rotating respective weight selectors into engagement with desired weights.

  • Patent number: 7137931
Abstract: A weight lifting device includes a handle having two end segments, a number of weight members each having a slot to receive either of the end segments of the handle, and an anchor plate rotatably attached to each of the weight members and having an opening selectively aligned with the slot of the weight member, to selectively receive either of the end segments of the handle. The anchor plate is rotatable relative to the weight member to offset the opening of the anchor plate from the slot of the weight member, and to selectively anchor the weight member to the handle. The desired number of weight members may thus be selectively attached to the handle.

  • Patent number: 7137932
Abstract: A dumbbell adjusting system comprises an adjusting system, a stand, and a locking mechanism. The adjusting system includes two rods on the dumbbell's handle which move in and out of the handle to selectively engage the inner threaded through holes of the weights. The weights are configured to interlock with one another so as not to move independently. The locking mechanism unlocks the weights from the handle when the dumbbell is in the stand, allowing the user to select the desired weight, and locks the weights into the handle when the dumbbell is lifted out of the stand.

  • Patent number: 7131938
Abstract: Weight head assembly for dumbbells that eliminates a weak point on the handle bar, so as to increase the durability of a handle bar on dumbbells. Under present invention, the ‘stub’ portion, where the handlebar is inserted into the weight heads on the two ends of the bar, need not be machined down in size at the junction point between handle bar and weight head, and can thus withstand more wear and tear for regular usage in fitness training. The cost of manufacturing the handle bar, and as a result of the increase durability, will help the fitness industry greatly when making new dumbbells.

  • Patent number: 7128696
Abstract: An exercise dumbbell includes a handle member and weight plates maintained in spaced relationship relative thereto. The handle member has a dedicated weight selector for each of the weight plates. Each weight selector is movable into and out of engagement with a respective weight plate. As a result, different combinations of the weight plates may be secured to the handle.
