  • Patent number: 6733427
Abstract: A resilient exercise hoop includes a resilient hoop body, two pressing members, and a resistance member. The resilient hoop body is circular in shape but deformed to be elliptic while pressed by an external force. While the external force is eliminated, the hoop body will recover the circular shape. The two pressing members face in opposite directions for pressing by the user to deform the resilient hoop body. The resistance member has two ends, which are respectively connected to two predetermined opposite sides of the resilient hoop body, with resilience for resisting the two opposite sides of the hoop body from outward extension and deformation. In addition, the resilience of the resistance can be variated by the user.

Abstract: A portable personal training and exercise device having a base assembly, a pole assembly and cable and pulley assembly. The base assembly has a tilt mechanism for holding the pole assembly in different orientations. The cable and pulley assembly is attached to the pole assembly and has two coaxial pulleys rotatably mounted on a common single stationary shaft. Each pulley is spring biased for rewinding a cord onto the pulley. The cable and pulley assembly also has a tension adjustment unit for adjusting the resistance of the pulleys, and two multi-direction guide units mounted on the housing of the cable and pulley assembly for allowing the pulley cords to be pulled in multiple directions with reduced friction. A user may pull the cords of the pulleys for exercising various muscles of the user and adjust the resistance force of the cords at an appropriate level suitable to the user.

Abstract: An apparatus for exercising the human body consisting of an elastic natural gum rubber band formed in a closed loop is disclosed. The apparatus is provided in a variety of lengths, thicknesses and widths to suit the size and muscular strength of the user. As the thickness of the band is increased, resistance to stretching also increases. A method of exercising using the elastic natural gum rubber band formed in a closed loop is also disclosed. The user attaches the band between a point on his body and either a second point or a plurality of points on his body and stretches the elastic band by flexing or extending parts of the body. The elastic band may also be attached between a fixed object and one or more points on the human body. The method includes completing repetitions of the exercises and progressing through increasing thicknesses of bands as the user's muscular fitness increases.

  • Patent number: 6716144
Abstract: The present invention provides and exercise device and methods designed to assist the exerciser in all abdominal strengthening exercises by use of an adjustable resilient means to provide resistance and absorb impact for the exerciser's eccentric range of motion, while supporting or boosting exerciser's concentric range of motion. This device offers maximum support for the exerciser's hips and back through the full range of abdominal exercises. The device includes a seat member and back member pivotally connected so that the seat and back provide a horizontal platform for the exerciser's use in a full range of abdominal exercise. When the preferred embodiment is not in use, the back member and seat member fold together for ease of storage or portability. A second embodiment offers the advanced exerciser adjustable foot positioning and back member positioning and is supported by an external frame assembly.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for obtaining a predetermined linear force, including a first elastic force means (Ee 1, 56) and a force output means (16, 76) in the form of a non-elastic, flexible elongated member. The invention is characterised by a force transformation means (10, 12, 72) arranged between said first elastic force means and the force output means, such that a pulling of the force output means creates a tension in said first elastic force means, and wherein the force transformation means is arranged and designed such that the pulling force required on the force output means decreases with the distance (X2) the force output means is pulled.

  • Patent number: 6692415
Abstract: A handle for use with an elastomeric tube in a resistance exercise device is generally U-shaped with a grip removably secured between opposite ends of the handle. A frusto-conical throat is defined through the nadir of the U-shape and receives one end of the tube. A retainer ball of greater diameter than the tube is inserted into one diametrically stretched end of the tube. The diameter of the retainer ball is smaller than the large diameter proximal end of the throat but greater than the small diameter distal end of the throat. With the end of the tube stretched about the retainer ball, the ball compresses the tube wall against the frusto-conical throat wall with a force that increases as the tension in the tube increases (i.e., as the tube is pulled distally). As a result, the tube is prevented from becoming loose and becoming disengaged from the handle during use.

  • Patent number: 6685602
Abstract: This invention describes a novel gravity-independent exercise unit designed for use in microgravity, or on the ground, as a means by which to counter muscle atrophy and bone degradation due to disuse or underuse. Modular resistive packs comprising constant torque springs provide constant force opposing the withdrawal of an exercise cable from the device. In addition to uses within the space program, the compact resistive packs of the CFREU allow the unit to be small enough for easy use as a home gym for personal use, or as a supplement for rehabilitation programs. Resistive packs may be changed conveniently out of the CFREU according to the desired exercise regimen. Thus, the resistive packs replace the need for expensive, heavy, and bulky traditional weight plates. The CFREU may be employed by hospitals, rehabilitation and physical therapy clinics, and other related professional businesses.
