  • Patent number: 8708873
Abstract: An apparatus and method provide an elastic resistance to a free-range of motion of a user. A cord running through a pulley and connected at either end to handles permits assisted resistance control (ARC) and a leverage advantage. In ARC, release by an anchor hand, still maintaining a load, may provide consistent or reduced force on the other, active, hand. One bodily member, such as a hand, may selectively halt and move as an “anchor” member, thereby simultaneously exercising itself and exerting control over another “active” bodily member operating in a “free range of motion.” Thereby, motion of the active hand may continue throughout a range desirable for a physical therapy regimen, a sporting activity, a work activity, or the like, without excessive stress or strain on joints due to a mismatch of position and load.

  • Patent number: 8696531
Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to furniture that facilitates the performance of various exercises. In one exemplary embodiment, an article of furniture, such as a chair, a sofa, a love seat, a table, a desk, a dresser, an ottoman, a trunk, or a chest, for example, is used to perform various exercises. The article of furniture has at least one attachment device, such as a hook or handle, to which an exercise band is coupled. The exercise band is elastic and can be pulled by a user to perform one or more exercises. The exercise band deforms when pulled and resists the pulling motion of the user as it is being stretched. In addition, when deformed, the exercise band generates a force that tends to return the band to its pre-deformation shape. By countering the force generated by the exercise band, the user's muscles are strengthened and toned.

Abstract: A strength training system and method includes an inelastic base strap connecting with an anchor and connecting with elastic/static components, which in turn are connected with handles. The combination of an inelastic base strap with modular elastic/static components configurable to be either elastic or inelastic provides the ability to perform suspension training as well as elastic band training with the same system. The elastic/static components may quickly be converted from an elastic to an inelastic segment by simply disconnecting the elastic module or by simply connecting the inelastic segment, since it is shorter than the elastic module. The elastic module includes a plurality of connectable elastic bands and may easily be replaced with other modules. An anchor point device is disclosed having double opposing cam buckles, usable with a door.

Abstract: An exercise bar is configured to removably receive elastic lines, allowing its use in elastic resistance exercises, and/or inelastic lines, allowing its use in suspended bodyweight exercises. Separate grips, each being engageable by a hand or a foot, are also provided, and may be removably connected to the bar or to each other via one or more lines. Bar supports may also be provided to support the bar above the ground, allowing easy use of the bar to perform push-ups and other exercises.

  • Patent number: 8475346
Abstract: A storable exercise apparatus for home use. The apparatus includes an upright tower, a base structure, a bench frame, and a bench attached to the bench frame. A set of flexible pull lines coupled to a resilient spring system are carried within the tower structure. The user exercises by pulling the pull lines against the bias of the spring system. The grips for the pull lines are mounted at the top of the tower and generate significant tipping force on the tower when the apparatus is in use. To prevent tipping, the bench frame has pivotal and load-transmitting connections with the tower structure; the tower is stabilized by the weight of the user on the bench. The bench may be placed in either a raised or lowered position, and can be stored by collapsing and pivoting it so that it abuts the tower vertically.
