Striking Patents (Class 482/83)
  • Patent number: 5183451
Abstract: A martial arts practice device essentially comprises an I-beam having a plurality of striking pads selectively positionable along its vertical height. The pads are cylindrically shaped and are attached to the I-beam by resilient springs so that they can flexibly move when struck by a user. A plurality of the devices may be interconnected so as to encircle a user to thus give the user the opportunity to strike in many different directions while improving his martial arts skills. Velcro attached padding may be positioned around the I-beam to prevent user injury, and various types of abrasive surface covers may be positioned over the pads to toughen a user's hands and feet.

  • Patent number: 5183450
Abstract: A martial arts training apparatus which includes a generally cylindrical shaped heavy bag having opposed ends and provided with means at its upper end for suspending the bag, and a simulated human leg which is positioned immediately adjacent the lower end of the heavy bag, with the simulated leg being generally cylindrical in shape and of a size which substantially replicates a human leg and is deformable. The simulated leg is secured to a frame means for properly positioning and suspending it from the heavy bag, with the frame means being positioned at the lower end of the heavy bag and external to the bag and shaped so as to conform to the shape of the lower end of the heavy bag. Means are also included for suspending and securing the frame means and the simulated leg to the heavy bag.

  • Patent number: 5171197
Abstract: An apparatus wherein a mounting plate is secured to a support plate, and the support plate in turn including saddle members for securement to a rearwardly positioned post. The support plate includes an upper and lower fastener to permit rotary positioning of the support plate to the mounting plate to orient an impact post rotatably relative to the support plate. The impact post is mounted to a spring hinge front plate, with the spring hinge front plate including a plurality of spring hinge members hingedly mounting the front plate to a rear plate. The front plate is hingedly mounted permitting one hundred eighty degrees of motion of the mounting post securing the impact post. A modification of the invention includes a clutch member joining the mounting post to the spring hinge front plate.

  • Patent number: 5147258
Abstract: In a light duty punching bag and suspension arrangement the bag consists of one or two balloons. When two balloons are used one is inflated inside the other, the two uniting to form a resilient bag. The inflation neck of the bag is stretched over the skirt of an inflation collar which includes a valve for controlling inflation. A cap screwed on to the inflation collar provides a suspension connected and also clamps the bag wall to the skirt of the collar. Connection to an overhead rebound board is by a short flexible element and a ball and socket joint in tandem.

  • Patent number: 5131896
Abstract: A karate practice board for subjection to hand and foot strikes comprises all permanent parts, by which the practice board or striking board can be manufactured and reused to reduce the cost of engaging in this sport or hobby. The striking board is comprised of a pair of rigid parts, and an insert part is adapted to be assembled between the rigid parts. The rigid parts are provided with cavities in which the insert part can be received in locked assembly. One of the rigid parts and the insert part are provided with a severable joint that can be severed by striking a karate hand or foot blow to the board preferably in proximity of the insert part. The kit is provided with a series of insert parts of varying length and strength which will require different predetermined severing forces to cause the board made with such parts to be severed.

  • Patent number: 5120261
Abstract: A toy apparatus including a plurality of spaced handle members, each handle member including a central support rod surrounded by a polymeric foam exterior cylindrical member secured together by frangible link members defining a chain, wherein the link members are of a flexible material separable to prevent inadvertent injury during use of the toy apparatus. The organization includes in a modified organization the use of a mounted simulated knife member, wherein the simulated knife member includes an interior reservoir and a valve member mounted at a forward end of the knife member to permit imparting of a fluid upon striking an opponent with the valve mounted at a forward end of the knife member.
