  • Patent number: 8756883
Abstract: An assembly and method for securely enclosing a door opening defined by a building structure comprising: a frame disposed about the opening engaging one side of the structure; a door or other panel substantially covering the opening, the panel being pivotally secured to the frame and pivotable between an open position and a closed position; an installation bar engageable with the frame to secure the frame to the structure such that the frame and the panel are disposed substantially on one side of the structure and the frame engages the one side of the structure, and the installation bar is disposed substantially on an other side of the structure and engages the other side of the structure, the length of the installation bar exceeding a dimension of the opening; and locking means for selectively locking the panel to the frame in the closed position and for unlocking the door.

  • Patent number: 8656642
Abstract: Disclosed is a door assembly comprising a custom-built doorframe housing a main door which carries an integrally mounted, rectangularly-shaped leaf door. The trailing edge of the main door rotates about a vertical axis which is parallel to, and proximate the inner rear surface of the doorframe. The leaf door is rotatably attached, by a spring mechanism, to a cutout excised from the leading edge of the main door. As the main door rotates about its vertical axis, the leaf door is restrained, by tension of the spring mechanism, from closing with full force upon human fingers or any other object that may be proximate the door jamb, or inner doorframe area. The pivoting, or trailing edge of the main door may be abutted against elastomeric material affixed to the inner rear surface of the doorframe, thereby preventing the insertion of fingers into what otherwise would be a hazardous gap.

  • Publication number: 20030204996
Abstract: A pet door unit (10) for mounting in a structure (100) , is described. The unit includes a housing (12) , an opening mechanism (22) , a door (18) , a receiver (36) and a transmitter (38) . The door is mounted parallel to the rear wall (12D) of the housing in guide rails (16) extending along the sidewalls (12C) of the housing. The opening mechanism includes a motor (24) having a screw drive (26) and a carriage (34) which is movably mounted on the screw drive. The carriage is connected to the top of the pet door and moves along the length of the screw shaft (28) as the shaft rotates to open and close the door. To open the door, a user presses a button (38A) on the portable transmitter which sends a signal to the receiver. When the receiver receives the signal, it activates the opening mechanism which activates the motor to rotate the screw drive to move the carriage and the door up the shaft to the open position.

  • Patent number: 6560926
Abstract: A pet door unit having a housing, an opening mechanism, a pet door, a receiver and a portable transmitter. The opening mechanism includes a motor having a screw drive and a carriage. The carriage is connected to the top of the pet door and moves along the length of a screw shaft of the screw drive as the shaft rotates to open and close the door. A detector is mounted on each of the sidewalls of the housing to detect an object in the opening of the housing and prevent the door from closing when an object is detected in the opening. To open the door, a user presses a button on the portable transmitter which sends a signal to the receiver which activates the opening mechanism to move the door to the open position.

  • Patent number: 5701813
Abstract: Presented is a pet door for screen applications with framing members similar to that used in existing screen doors and screen windows. The pet door comprises interchangeable and reversible parts capable of being combined in a manner to acheive a configuration adaptable to the various types of screen frames that the device is installed on. To provide a rigid attachment of the pet door to the existing screen frame, mounting brackets are used. When installed, the pet door provides a rigid and safe access for pets to enter or exit a residence.

  • Patent number: 5524954
Abstract: A two-window closure for the rear opening of a van to obviate a spare tire obstruction in which one window is coextensive with the spare tire and remains in place unless the spare tire is traversed out of the way, but the other window being coextensive with the remainder of the window opening can be opened without traversing the spare tire and thus provides the user with access into the rear of the van.

  • Patent number: 5467559
Abstract: An electrically operated drop seal assembly for a pass door in an operable wall. The drop seal assembly includes an actuator which is selectively movable by a motor between a first position and a second position. The assembly also includes a retractable drop seal which is movable between a retracted position spaced from the floor over which the pass door is suspended and a sealed position in sealing engagement with the floor. A coupling of the drop seal assembly converts movement of the actuator from the first position to the second position into movement of the retractable drop seal from the retracted position to the sealed position. The assembly also includes a pass door opening activated retractor for raising the retractable drop seal from the sealed position when the pass door is moved relative to the operable wall from a closed position to an opened position.
