Patent number: 5083398Abstract: A remote lock assembly for vertically pivoting windows has two resilient catches mounted in the vertical stile of a window sash one above the other. Opposite the lower catch is a cam housing with a recess in which the lower catch is engaged when the window is in a locked position and containing a cam which, when rotated, rides against the catch to force the catch out of the cam housing to unlock the window. A flapper housing is mounted in the window jamb and has a recess for engaging the second catch. A flapper is pivotally mounted to the flapper housing and pivots between a locked position in which the flapper does not block the housing recess and an unlocked position in which it blocks the housing recess and forces the opposing catch out of the flapper housing recess. A link connects the cam to a bar which slidably extends into the flapper housing. The bar has a protrusion which engages the flapper, such that rotation of the cam operates to disengage both catches from the window jamb.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1991Date of Patent: January 28, 1992Assignee: Wausau Metals CorporationInventors: John P. Patent number: 5070649Abstract: A window, particularly designed to be installed in an inclined roof, comprises a top-hinged sash which via a lifting arm is connected with a slide shoe displaceable along a guidance of a lateral frame member. An intermediate member is provided with a transverse pin adapted to be connected with a pocket in the top side of the slide shoe, and the intermediate member is loaded or biased in a direction towards the lower end of the guidance by means of a spring. A spacer serves to hold the intermediate member ready for engagement. When the window has been installed in the roof, the appropriate pocket to be engaged by the transverse pin is selected with due regard to the roof inclination, i.e. the pocket resulting in a desired opening force acting on the sash, which is then swung open until the transverse pin engages the selected pocket, whereupon the sash is swung slightly in its closing direction to release the spacer for removal.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1990Date of Patent: December 10, 1991Assignee: V. Patent number: 4480406Abstract: In skylights wherein the wing may be selectively adjusted into a pivoting and swivel position, the wing is fixed with respect to the auxiliary frame in the pivoted opened position. If this fixation is removed due to a faulty operation, the upper, heavier half of the wing moves in the direction of the case so that there is a danger of damage. To make the negative effects of the faulty operation ineffective, flap 18 provided with latch 19 and having a pivoting axis displaced in relation to axial pin 7 in the direction of swivel joint 5 is pivotally mounted on auxiliary frame 2. Latch 19 arranged at a slight distance from axial pin 7 in the closed position subtends axial pin 7 when wing 3 is pivoted open. In case of a faulty operation, the weight of wing 3 causes axial pin 7 to be pressed against latch 19 of flap 18. This automatically secures a pivotally opened skylight against the results of a faulty operation, which is automatically undone, FIG. 4, when the wing is brought into the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1982Date of Patent: November 6, 1984Assignee: Wilh. Patent number: 4449327Abstract: In a tilting window having a main frame (1), an intermediate frame (3) top-hinged therein, and a sash (7) pivotally mounted or tilting movement in the intermediate frame, said sash (7) comprises an arresting member (10) which is located in the vicinity of the pivot bearing (6) of the sash and upon closing of the window, which is effected by coordinated tilting of the sash in relation to the intermediate frame and swinging of said intermediate frame in relation to the main frame, engages an associate arresting member (11) on the main frame. After locking together the intermediate frame (3) and the sash (7) at the top, the window will be firmly held in a closed or in a slightly open position. The operation of the window requires only a locking or coupling mechanism at the top of the window.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: V. Patent number: 4307542Abstract: A window with a sash mounted in a frame has elongated draft stops extending along the rails of the sash. The draft stops are disposed in the frame and normally project out to overlap the sash rails. The draft stops are retractible outwardly beyond the outer edges of the rails and the sash is mounted to turn about its vertical centerline when the draft stops are retracted. When a handle mounted in the frame is turned in one direction, it operates a mechanism to retract the lower draft stop. The side draft stops retract in response to retraction of the lower draft stop and this, in turn, raises the upper draft stop so that all of the draft stops are retracted together. Turning the handle in the opposite direction returns all of the draft stops to their projected or active position.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Amerock CorporationInventor: Robert F. Patent number: 4306377Abstract: Suspension hardware for interior doors, such as closet or wardrobe doors and the like, incorporating overhead and floor mounted hardware assemblies, each incorporating a pair of angularly intersecting track means; the track means of cooperating assemblies being aligned in superposed registry in operation. One track means of each assembly parallels the wall in which the door opening is formed while the other track means is in intersecting relation thereto. Door brackets are affixed to the inner face of the door, adjacent its upper and lower edges, and guide members are mounted thereon for sliding movement along associated track means. Each guide member is pivotally joined to the door (via the associated door bracket) for pivotal movement about a vertical axis so that the door is movable simultaneously along the intersecting paths of the track means to produce arcuate swinging door action.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1980Date of Patent: December 22, 1981Assignee: John Sterling CorporationInventors: John G. Patent number: 4235048Abstract: A multiple layer coating is disclosed which enables a window unit to function efficiently as a solar energy collector in winter and as a heat shield in summer. The coating comprises a layer of metal which provides high reflectance of incident solar energy from one side of a coated transparent substrate and a layer which provides high absorption of incident solar energy by the other side of the coated substrate. The absorbing layer may be a single film of a highly absorptive material, but is preferably a dual film of an absorptive material covered by an antireflective material. The absorptive layer may also comprise multiple alternating films of metal and dielectric materials which effectively absorb incident solar energy. Patent number: 4083150Abstract: An improved, one piece, counterbalanced, canopy-type door. The door has a counterweight tube fixed to and extending along the upper edge thereof, which tube contains a counterweight mass. The counterweight tube projects outwardly beyond the front surface of the door to provide for a positive closing of the door when the door swingably approaches its closed position. The door inlcudes a frame having a pair of Z-shaped rails defining the side edges of the door, and one or more intermediate channel members disposed between and substantially parallel to the side rails. The side rails and channel members are fixed at the upper ends thereof to the counterweight tube, and are of decreasing cross-section as they extend to the lower end of the door.
