    Abstract: The present invention provides a concealed hinge for a removable cover and includes an integrally formed locking mechanism which prevents vertical movement of the cover when it is in the closed position. The hinge is made from two parts, one being welded to the cover and one being welded to the enclosure. One of the parts includes an integrally formed locking arm which continuously engages the other hinge part except when the cover is completely open, thus preventing any vertical movement of the cover which might defeat a cover safety interlock. The hinge is completely concealed by a flange of the cover to which it attached.

    Abstract: A flush-mounted articulated window assembly for use in a vehicle, the window assembly adapted to be mounted in a window opening such that, when closed, it is generally flush with the exterior surface of the vehicle. The window assembly includes a transparent sheet with at least one window-mounting member bonded by two separate adhesives to an inner surface of the sheet. The mounting member includes projections which space the mounting member from the inner sheet surface, and/or perforations which allow air and moisture to reach the space provided between the mounting member and the inner sheet surface. A first adhesive temporarily fixtures the mounting member to the sheet. A second adhesive permanently bonds the mounting member to the inner sheet surface. The bond created is sufficiently strong such that application of a load sufficient to cause a failure results in a failure other than in the adhesion of the adhesive to the mounting member and the panel.

    Abstract: A hatch assembly includes a first frame member having a generally J-shaped cross-section with a longitudinal extending or upright position and a generally parallel lip portion which is separated from the longitudinal portion by a horizontal section or riser. The assembly also includes a second frame member rotatably fixed to the first frame member. The second frame member includes a pair of elastomer seals fixed thereto so that a first of the seals engages the longitudinal portion of the J-shaped frame while the second seal engages the lip. The second frame member also includes a vent or small opening between the seals and a cavity for receiving any airborne water which passes through the vent. This vent is also constructed and arranged to drain air our of the cabin. In addition, the hatch assembly includes a hidden counterweight.

    Abstract: An door for an overhead rack of a luggage compartment of a bus is hinged on a bracket which extends downwardly from the ceiling of the bus. When the door is opened it rolls around the pivot away from the aisle and into the luggage compartment. The door is held in the open position by a compression spring until closed and latched. The door-hinge combination is particularly suited for retrofitting old busses which were constructed with open luggage racks. The old busses were unsafe because items in the storage racks could fall on passengers in case of accident or emergency movement of the bus.

    Abstract: A refrigerator includes a door hinged to a housing, and a door opening/closing assist device which aids in opening and closing the door. The device includes a spring-biased roller carried by the door and a guide plate carried by the housing. The guide plate forms a guide curvature against which the roller is elastically biased. The guide curvature is shaped so that during an initial stage of a door opening (or closing) movement the roller is displaced by the guide curvature to cause the spring to store energy, and so that during a final stage of the door opening (or closing) movement, the spring releases energy and forces the door to assist the performance of the final stage.

    Abstract: A bill acceptor door is pivotally mounted to a cabinet access door of a cabinet by a hinge arrangement that facilitates assembly, but which provides secure retention of the bill acceptor door. In particular, tile hinge arrangement includes a hinge bracket defining a pair of slots, and the bill acceptor door includes a housing defining a pair of slot engaging pivot pins. The housing is configured to securely receive a bill acceptor and a bill collector cartridge, but only after the bill acceptor door is mounted on the cabinet. The bill acceptor door can be oriented in the intermediate position so that the pivot pins will slidingly engage the slots. The hinge bracket further defines fingers which engage the restrictive space between the pivot pins and the bill acceptor door to interlockingly engage the pivot pins and thus securely retain tile bill acceptor door to the hinge bracket when the bill acceptor door is located between the intermediate and open positions.

The hinge structure relies on an extended frame that provides a structure extending forward from the wall that the cabinet is mounted into. The side edges of the cabinet are of rounded construction and tapering to an edge. The hinge is mounted by plates to both the extended frame and the frame of the door. The door mounts with the tapered edge flush against the wall, thus preventing the viewing of the hinge from any angle that one could take. The door may have a slotted portion in order to place a mirror, picture or other decorative object on the face of the cabinet to deceive an intruder about the purpose of the cabinet.

    Abstract: An access panel assembly for providing access to the interior of a wall is disclosed. The panel is made of a molded plastic, such as a styrene polymer. The door is press-fit and is held in the frame by grooves in the frame which align with resilient proturbences on the door panel. A hidden hinge, which allows the door to be hinged or removed from the frame, is provided. A pair of eccentric cavities serves to provide pivot points for the hinge and engage with hinge pivots on the access door. In this hinge, the pivot point may vary, thereby preventing jamming of the door. A notch is formed in the eccentric cavity to allow removal of the door. Pry holes are provided to assist in removal of the door. An embodiment is disclosed which permits the hinged door to be flush mounted from either side of the frame.

    Abstract: A hinge for mounting a wooden gate to a wooden fence post. This hinge features a protected pivot point so as to minimize deterioration of the pivot point by weathering, lips that coact with the fence post so as to counter act gate sagging over time and thus maintain the gate in a square orientation and a design that limits the gate opening or swing to one direction only. The hinge is comprised of a non-moving stirrup member mounted in a notch cut into the fence post and a moving stirrup member that is attached to the gate. The pivot pin of the hinge is mounted within a notch in the fence post so that it is protected from the elements. The notch in the fence post also supports the non-moving stirrup member of the hinge so as to minimize gate sagging. The simplicity of the hinge design provides a gate hinge that is inexpensive to manufacture and simple to assemble and install.

    Abstract: A semi-frameless door, per se, and in combination with a firebox opening and the like, utilizes a specially configured spacer frame to seal inner and outer glass panes and also, if desired, the firebox opening. The glass size differences and black colored spacer frame create a size illusion and a shadow glow reflection when viewing the fire in the firebox. Inner retainer plates sealing the inner glass to the inside surface of the spacer frame have lip edges which are forced into contact with a fibrous seal disposed in a channel configuration within the opening when the door is latched to insure sealing of the opening should the door hinge ever loosen during extended use.

    Abstract: A cover plate is provided for an access opening in a plate structure that forms part of a housing. The cover plate has a rod at one end thereof that has opposite ends bent toward the plate structure and engaging the internal surface of the plate structure. The plate structure also has lips thereon that engage the internal surface of the plate cover and limit movement of the plate structure to a position in which its edges are co-extensive with the edges of the opening. A further means is provided between the plate structure having the opening and the cover plate which draws the cover plate into engagement with the stops or lips while, at the same time, distorting or stressing the rod as the rod end of the cover is forced into the closed position. By placing such stress on the rod, the entire plate cover is held firmly against the lips and is prevented from rattling or becoming loose.
