  • Patent number: 4837977
Abstract: Wood cladding for mounting on the inner surface of nonwooden windows having common interior cross sections in which the sash is mounted on the frame from the outside of the window is disclosed. The wood cladding includes at least two sections of wood shaped to conform to the interior surface of the window. Each wood section has a uniform cross section along its entire length and is attachable to either the frame or sash of the window without altering the length and width dimensions of the window or affecting the fit of the window. Cladding may also be applied to mullions. The cladding provides an unmarred, unblemished wood appearance on the inner surface of the window. Fastening devices such as screws or dowels are used to fasten the wood sections to the window without being visible on the frame or on the sash when the sash is closed.

  • Patent number: 4555869
Abstract: A replacement window is formed from extruded frame members connected by preformed corners in a manner which eliminates punch press operations typically used to form replacement windows. Preformed corner sections connect extruded horizontal and vertical frame members to form window sashes. Different preformed corners are used to connect extruded horizontal and vertical frame members to form a window frame. The preformed corners are all L-shaped with male members adapted to fit within hollow portions of the horizontal and vertical extruded members. The preformed corners used in the window sashes include any latch mechanism or guidepins required for the sash.

  • Patent number: 4555868
Abstract: A tilt window includes a frame with a sill, a header and a pair of jambs, each extruded from rigid plastic material. Each member is formed of multi-hollow construction for overall strength and rigidity. The jamb comprises, in cross-section, a base and an inner leg, an outer leg and center leg projecting from the base to form inner and outer channels. A portion of each center leg and outer leg projects to form a sash engagement panel. The sashes are held within the respective channels by sliding balance shoes and latch members, and may be tilted inwardly away from the sash engagement panels for cleaning.

  • Patent number: 4555867
Abstract: An improved security window cover having a peripheral frame structure and a security shielding door or cover hingedly attached to the frame. The frame has walls which conform to the interior building wall adjacent the window and walls which conform to the shape, contour and dimensions of the inner circumferential edge of the wall opening in which the window is installed. The inner circumferential walls of the frame have partial rigid joints joining them to one another which create a degree of flexibility for fit and installation. The shielding door preferably has a lip or ridge on the outside which is medial and parallel to the edges of the door which serves to strengthen the door, protect the frame installation means and act as a guide and support for insulation.

  • Patent number: 4530189
Abstract: A fire resistant, elevator hatchway door entrance for wall openings up to and including 10 feet in height, including first and second side jambs and a head jamb. Each side jamb includes a pair of upstanding, oppositely facing, metallic channel members dimensioned and coupled together to define both a structural box beam and a pocket for receiving the wall which defines the opening. The bight and one leg portion of one channel member define the jamb depth and reveal, respectively, of the side jamb, and the bight of the other channel member receives and shields an asociated J-strut at the wall-entrance interface. The remaining leg portion of the one channel member may cooperate with a member disposed on the trailing edge of the associated door panel to define a flame shield and a mechanical limit for preventing undue separation of the door panel from the side jamb.

  • Patent number: 4524112
Abstract: A composite profile member includes two metal profile bars and at least one thermally insulating, one-piece insulating bar which engages into a clamping groove of the metal profile bars. The insulating bar is fixed in the respective clamping groove by its hook-shaped groove webs which are pressed against the insulating bar, with corresponding centering means being provided at the insulating bar and in the respective clamping groove to assure dimensional accuracy when the groove webs are pressed on. The centering means in the bottom of the respective clamping groove is a centering groove which has a trapezoidal cross section that widens in the direction toward the insulating bar and the centering means in the parts of the insulating bar which engage in the clamping grooves are members which have a trapezoidal cross section that becomes narrower toward the metal profile bars so as to engage in a centering manner in the respective centering groove.

  • Patent number: 4516356
Abstract: An insulated vinyl window frame includes at least one passageway having insulation disposed therein. The insulation may be either foamed in place or rigid material which is formed to size and then inserted into the passageway during assembly of the frame. Preferably, the passageway walls include a plurality of ribs which position the rigid insulation a small interval from the walls defining and sealing off air spaces between the walls and the insulation thereby providing small, substantially non-circulating regions of air. Since the air has a heat resistance value greater than most other construction and insulating materials such as plastic, glass, rubber or metal, the window frame exhibits extraordinary insulating characteristics.
