Abstract: A deflection compensated roll for a paper/board or finishing machine includes a stationary roll shaft (1), and a roll shell (2) structured and arranged to be rotatable around the same and mounted with slide bearing elements (3-6) upon the roll shaft (2). The slide bearing elements are provided with hydraulic fluid feeding means for loading the slide bearing elements with a hydraulic fluid. The roll is intended to form a nip together with a counter roll. The hydraulic fluid feeding device is provided with control elements, whereby the slide bearing elements (3, 4) acting in the direction of a nip load (F) are loadable in such a way that the roll shell (2) is able to perform a stroke relative to the roll shaft (1) radially of the roll or to remain substantially immobilized relative to the roll shaft (1).

Abstract: The invention relates to a slide shoe assembly for a roll (1) in a paper/board machine or a finishing machine, said roll (1) comprising a stationary axle (4), around which is rotatably mounted a cylindrical roll shell (2), a clearance (5) formed between the axle (4) and an inner surface (3) oF the roll shell (2) being fitted with loading elements (11) operated by a pressurized hydraulic fluid and provided with slide shoes (10, 110) which are loadable against the inner surface (3) of the roll shell (2) for controlling the distribution of a nip pressure in a nip (N) established with a counter roll (9). According to the invention, the loading element is equipped with means capable of eliminating or compensating for a nip-load induced deflection of the roll shell and/or a deflection of the slide shoe caused by the pressure of a hydraulic medium, thereby eliminating the harmful effects caused by said deflections on an oil film between the loading shoe and a cylindrical surface supported thereby.

In one embodiment, the head itself is provided with a wedge surface in engagement with respective inclined surfaces of wedge segments and the blanket extends between these wedge segments and opposing surfaces provided on the clamping means. Axial displacement of the clamping means relative to the head, e.g. by tightening or releasing of bolts, then causes the blanket to be clamped between the wedge segments and the clamping means or to be released and removable therefrom. In another embodiment, it is the clamping means which is provided with wedge surfaces in engagement with respective inclined surfaces of wedge segments, and the blanket then extends between the wedge segments, and an opposing flat surface on the head. However, in other respects axial displacement of the clamping means brings about clamping or release of the blanket edge in the same manner.
