The thermoform is bonded to the tray with adhesive and the container is closed to allow the adhesive to cure in the closed configuration. When opened, stress is created by the tray being fixed to the cover. To alleviate the stress, perforations between the tray sections and the spine break forming three distinct sections. In the open configuration, a small gap is created between the tray section and the spine.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2003Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventor: Raymond Sullivan

Patent number: 6851633Abstract: A liquid dispenser. The dispenser includes a base structure, a plurality of cartridges releasably mounted to the base structure, and a valve fluidly coupled with an applicator head to allow continued contact with and selective deposition of the liquid to a product passing through a travel path between the cartridges. At least one of the cartridges is linked to the base structure through a variable coupling that is linearly responsive to changes in thickness or planarity of the product such that the applicator head automatically maintains constant contact with the product, regardless of such changes, without having to stop the dispenser or ancillary pieces of machinery. The cartridges are hand interchangeable such that liquid can be deposited on either an upper or lower surface of the product without requiring any tools to affect top-down or bottom-up deposition.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2002Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignee: Valco Cincinnati, Inc.Inventors: Jude A. Patent number: 6755773Abstract: A double box glue and tape machine that includes upper and lower seam conveyors with separately positionable gluing conveyors and idler rollers, which allows the idler rollers to be moved out of the way so that the upper and lower seam gluing conveyors may be positioned opposite each other for simultaneous gluing of overlapping seams. The machine also includes a semi-automatic alignment and feed system that includes one or more remotely operable gates for blocking the entrance of a pair of box blanks into the machine to facilitate alignment of the box blanks prior to feeding them into the machine. The alignment and feed system may also include outboard rollers to provide lateral support to the box blanks, input guide rollers to direct the box blanks into the seam conveyors, a seam separator to facilitate separation of the seam around the glue head, and a cold glue flushing system.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2002Date of Patent: June 29, 2004Assignee: Corrugated Gear & Services, Inc.Inventor: Luis Ospina

Patent number: 6632163Abstract: A carton blank is etched with a laser to remove at least a portion of a coating material on a glue panel area of the carton blank. The laser-etching process allows the use of cold-resin or other standard glue in manufacturing a carton from the carton blank, instead of a more expensive specialized glue which would be otherwise required to provide an adequate bond for the carton. The laser-etching process is controlled as a function of the coating material required to be removed from the glue panel of the carton blank, the speed of the carton blank as it is processed through the system, and the dispersion characteristics of the laser beam.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2001Date of Patent: October 14, 2003Assignee: The C.W.
