To impart the pattern to the sidewall, a thermoplastic web used to make the sidewall may be directed between a first cylindrical roller and a second cylindrical roller, each of which may have a plurality of spaced ridges extending about their peripheries. When the web is directed between the first and second rollers, the meshing of the ridges may form ribs into the web.

The bag includes first and second gusseted side walls that span a depth of the bag and front and rear walls that span a width of the bag. The bag has a substantially rectangular closed bottom end. In order to maximize the viewabilty of stored items and reduce the amount of film material in the bag, the bag has a depth to width ratio of at least 1.5:1 at the bottom of the bag. Stability is enhanced by sizing the gussets such that they closely approach but do not overlap a line longitudinally bisecting the bag. A VFFS machine and its method of operation also are disclosed.

    Abstract: A continuous web of closed, preformed end-to-end bags for enclosing bales of material are made by forming an elongate sheet into a helix tube, flattening the tube into first and second elongate bag walls and securing the bag walls at closure seams located along the flattened helix tube. The helix tube is formed by nesting the elongate sheet side edges into U-shapes and sewing. The bag walls are secured to one another by nesting them into U-shapes and sewing. Bales are enveloped by severing the web and thereby providing a bag with an open end, separating the bag walls, inserting a bale therein, closing the bag and severing from the remaining web. Each bag is located along the web with a pair of sensors which provide a locating signal responsive to the bag closure seams.

    Abstract: A package for a cryopreservation container including at least an adhesive fluoropolymer film. The package for a cryopreservation container makes it possible to store blood, rare cells and vital tissues in a very low temperature environment without any damage to the container. Further, the sealing strength resulting from heat sealing after placing a cryopreservation container in the packages is very good. Therefore, liquid nitrogen can be inhibited from entering the inside and thus contamination with bacteria, viruses or the like contained in liquid nitrogen can be avoided and the package can be prevented from being broken by expansion of intruder liquid nitrogen on the occasion of thawing. Also disclosed is a method for packaging a cryopreservation container and a method of producing a package for a cryopreservation container.

    Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter is directed to an ostomy pouch comprising at least one absorbent material housed within the interior of the pouch.     Abstract: A biodegradable sampling bag for containing samples or the like, comprises a flexible enclosure defining a chamber adapted to contain therein the sample, the flexible enclosure being made of a plastic material, which contains an additive that renders the flexible enclosure biodegradable when exposed for a sufficient period of time to microbial action. The additive is adapted to enable microorganisms to metabolize the molecular structure of said flexible enclosure. The additive is effective in altering the polymer chain of the plastic material to allow microbial action of a suitable environment to colonize in and around the plastic material, whereby microbes can then form a biofilm on a surface of the flexible enclosure and secrete acids which break down the entire polymer chain. The flexible enclosure, when exposed to microbial action, is adapted to withstand biodegradation for a given period of time, typically of at least three months.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to generating a film suitable for medical packaging. The film is generated by blown film co-extrusion to form a multi-layer film which has a heat resistant layer, a barrier layer and a heat seal layer. The barrier layer includes a high barrier resin and a branched co-polymer. The high barrier resin has a density of at least 0.963 g/cm3. The barrier layer includes between 25% and 85% high barrier resin. The heat resistant layer may be comprised of polymers, papers and other materials. The heat seal layer, in some embodiments, comprises any of high density polyethylene and medium density polyethylene, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, an additional laminate layer may be affixed to the heat resistant layer of the multi-layer film. The final film is between 3.0 and 3.8 mils in thickness, and has a moisture vapor transmission rate of less than 0.08.
