  • Patent number: 4813208
Abstract: A method and a device for scrap-free manufacture of coated profiles and thermoformed containers.A hollow pipe having a cross-section suitable for the desired profile is extruded. The extruded hollow profile is cut longitudinally.Thereafter the profile is planar laminated by a web formed material having desired characteristics. The cut, laminated profile thereafter is formed into the original shape thereof, or another suitable shape, and is formed into container casings. When thermoforming containers, a hollow profile is extruded from a thermoformable material in an extruder, this hollow profile is cut, in one or several longitudinal cuts. In web or roller form such cut profile is supplied to a so called scrap-free thermoforming machinery, where the thermoformed containers are manufactured.

  • Patent number: 4711797
Abstract: The invention relates to a material for packing containers comprising punched out blanks or a coherent web made up of a carrier layer of cardboard which on either side has a coating of thermoplastics. The carrier layer is reduced in thickness along selectively chosen regions in that parts of the carrier layer material are ground away and the regions of the blank or of the web which include the said thickness-reduced regions are folded over one another so as to form a so-called Z-fold wherein parts folded together are sealed to one another in order to form portions of rigid form, the total material thickness within the said ground portions of the Z-folded region A substantially corresponding to the thickness of the non-ground material.

  • Patent number: 4708708
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for skiving and hemming one or more edges of a paperboard web or blank to improve the sealing qualities of a container made from the paperboard. The paperboard is skived twice generally parallel to its edge, once to define an oblique surface and once to make a flat skived surface. The latter is folded over the former and heat-sealed to a heat sealable material adjacent the skived region, defining a wedge-shaped edge portion. The folded over part is preferably ironed to produce a substantially flat sheet, and the wedge-shaped edge is preferably reshaped at some point in the process to make the entire folded over surface substantially flush with the unskived surface to which it is sealed. The flat skived surface is preferably made by a milling procedure in which the milling teeth strike the material while moving in a direction opposite to that of the motion of the material.

  • Patent number: 4665680
Abstract: An extruded cylinder of plastic material having open ends and die-cut flaps on opposite sides is a supporting holder for limp plastic bags. The holder is formed by an inexpensive process of extruding plastic and cutting the tube into cylinders of the proper length and simultaneously die-cutting the flaps in the sides of the cylinder. The holder is flattened during manufacture and packaged in the flattened condition.

  • Patent number: 4448627
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for applying mainly a thin rubber sheet, such as an inner liner or insulation, onto a tire making drum, which is used in a series of raw tire making processes. The apparatus can realize a proper applying of the sheet in such a manner that the rubber sheet, not previously cut to a specified length although it is longer than the circumference of the drum, is pressed at the foremost end onto the tire making drum, is applied thereto in a length corresponding to about one circumference of the drum through rotary control thereof, is thereafter cut automatically to the specified length, and is subsequently applied at the rear end of the cut sheet onto the drum.

  • Patent number: 4432746
Abstract: An apparatus for segmenting a continuous running web into a stream of discrete articles by cutting the web transversely at uniformly longitudinally spaced intervals; and which apparatus may also effect U-folding of each of the discrete articles. The apparatus is of the type which includes a flight of longitudinally spaced, web engaging friction plates which provide cutter access to the web through spaces intermediate adjacent friction plates. The apparatus further includes a constant clearance infeed nip which is formed in part by the spaced friction plates of the flight passing over a circumferential portion of an infeed roll having circumferentially spaced, radially extending lugs, and which lugs are configured and disposed to engage the web by extending through the spaces intermediate the spaced friction plates. Alternatively, the flight of friction plates may be integrated into a unitary apertured conveyor belt; and the cutter may be integrated into such a constant clearance nip.

  • Patent number: 4270443
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a convolute paper tube on a winding mandrel, including means for conveying a sheet of paper from a gluing and cutting apparatus longitudinally of the winding mandrel, with an edge of the paper sheet engaged in a longitudinal slot in the mandrel, to a position where the sheet edge is fully engaged with the mandrel suitably for winding. The conveying means includes a belt conveyor for slidable frictional engagement of the paper sheet to convey the paper sheet into winding position while being slidable with respect thereto so that the paper can remain in proper winding position while in continuing contact with the moving conveyor belt. Support wires, guides, trim rolls, and a stop are also provided in the apparatus for controlling the pick up, transport, alignment, and terminal position of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4256027
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the cutting of a helically wound tube made of strips of paper, cardboard or the like, into container cylinders having a labeling which is wound thereon by a wrapping belt, the drive speed of the cutting mechanism being compared with the feeding speed of the strip of labels, and a correction in the cutting being effected in the event of any difference. For the correction of the cut, the value resulting from the comparison of the drive speed of the cutting mechanism with the feeding speed of the strip of labels is used to control the speed of the wrapping belt.

  • Patent number: 4256028
Abstract: This invention relates to method and apparatus for making plastic tubular preforms for assemblying bottles or other containers into individual mutli-unit packages. The bottles for an integral multi-container package are arranged in a tightly-assembled group and the tubular preform is placed around the group. The tubular preform is formed from a lengthy sheet of flexible heat-shrinkable thermoplastic material which preferably is comprised of a composite foam and film laminate with the preform having a thermal fusion seal extending in an axial direction. The preform is flat-folded with a pair of axial pleated folds in diametrically opposite sides and then double-folded centrally for use in multiple unit packaging of like containers. The preforms has a primary orientation in a circumferential direction and a secondary orientation in an axial direction making it particularly useful when fully opened for heat shrinking around a group of like containers.
