  • Patent number: 4437855
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the cutoff length of a duel web folding and cutting assembly. The method comprises steps of reducing the support surface under the working parts of the folding cylinder along the length of a roller which contacts the web such that the working parts may be replaced without modification. Further, the cutting rollers reduced in diameter must be moved closer to the folding cylinder. One method of moving the cutting cylinder is by reboreing the mounting hole for one end of the cutting cylinder on the drive side to enable placement of sleeve having eccentric center holes in each side frame to move the cylinder closer. The other method comprises steps of cutting the driven side of the cutting cylinder support shaft off positioning it in an auxiliary side frame mounted inside of the old side frame and driving cutting cylinder with gears positioned inide of the auxiliary side frame.

  • Patent number: 4427405
Abstract: A signature transfer device in a folder for a rotary printing press includes a plurality of adjustable-pressure rollers for holding down upper tapes for transferring a signature with a strong force to prevent the upper tapes from slipping on the signature and hence, to prevent the latter from being inclined while the signature is being transferred toward a position in which the signature will be folded on itself by a chopper blade. The signature transfer device includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting gaps between the upper tapes and the lower tapes to reduce the force with which the signature is sandwiched between the upper and lower tapes, so that the signature is prevented from being forcibly pressed against front lays in the folding position. With this arrangement, the signature is prevented from getting wrinkled upon abutment against the front lays, and from becoming inclined relative to the chopper blade when the signature approaches and arrives at the folding position.
