Abstract: Disclosed herein are various exemplary embodiments of packaging having perforated opening strips that may provide for relatively easy, convenient, and/or tamper-evident opening of the packaging. In an exemplary embodiment, a packaging unit generally includes a rearward wall, a forward wall, and a hinge connecting the forward wall to the rearward wall. A sealable interface is generally opposite the hinge. The rearward and forward walls cooperatively define an item-receiving compartment generally between the hinge and sealable interface. First and second sets of spaced-apart perforations penetrate at least partially through the rearward wall, such that a perforated opening strip is integrally defined in the rearward wall by the first and second sets of spaced-apart perforations generally between the sealable interface and the item-receiving compartment. The perforated opening strip may be removable even while the rearward and forward walls may remain sealed to each other at or along the sealable interface.

Abstract: A method for making a multilayered paper-containing product, for example a paper plate or tray, includes assembling two or more sheets of paper-containing material cut into blanks. The blanks are pressed together and shaped in a die, usually with a bonding agent being used to secure the blanks. Pleats are formed in the curved portion of the shaped product. However, the pleats on each blank are formed independently so that the folded region formed in the pleats are arranged in a staggered array and are not interleaved with the pleats of the other blank.

Abstract: A ripple bottom pizza box and the method of creating a pizza box with such a ripple bottom. A pizza box blank is provided that is made of corrugated cardboard. The corrugated cardboard has parallel corrugation waves that traverse a flat bottom section pf the pizza box blank in a first direction. A roller is provided that has multiple parallel roller heads. The flat bottom section of the pizza box blank is advanced under the rollers. The parallel roller heads press parallel depressions into the flat bottom section in a direction perpendicular to the first direction of the corrugation waves. The result is that when the pizza box blank is folded into a pizza box, the bottom of the pizza box is contoured with parallel depression lines.

Abstract: An in-line method and apparatus for making a corrugated board and carton blanks from the corrugated board include: a laminating station for completing the formation of a corrugated board having a corrugated medium, an inner liner, and a printed outer liner; an adhesive setting station for curing adhesive in the corrugated board; and a creasing, cutting, and scrap removal station for repeatedly forming sets of fold lines and cuts in the corrugated board to make carton blanks. The sets of fold lines and cuts may be formed by rotary or flatbed dies and a control system properly locates the sets of fold lines and cuts and printed matter on the outer liner relative to each other on the carton blanks being formed.

Abstract: A heat-insulating container is used for an instant dried food and is excellent in heat-insulating property, design and economy. The container comprises a paper cup body with a bottom, which has an inner surface coated with a polyolefin resin and is provided with an outward curled portion formed at an upper opening end of the cup body and at least one horizontal rib formed on a side wall of the cup body so as to project outward therefrom; and an inverse-frustoconical paper sleeve provided with an inward curled portion formed at a lower end of the sleeve. The cup body and the sleeve are integrally combined with each other so that an upper end of the sleeve is joined to an outer periphery of the side wall of the cup body, which is adjacent to the outward curled portion of the cup body, and an inner surface of the inward curled portion of the sleeve is joined to an outer periphery of a lower portion of the side wall of the cup body.

Abstract: A tamper evident and resistant container lid of the present invention includes a lid body configured to cover the opening of a base container having a top rim and a skirt extending from the lid. The skirt has an annular score line and an annular fold line extending therearound. An outer band of the skirt extends between the score line and the fold line, and an inner band folded inwardly to be in opposing relation to the outer band extends upwardly from the fold line to an upper free edge. When the container lid is sufficiently applied to the base container such that the second portion slides downwardly past a top rim of the base container, achieving a proper closure, an attempt to remove the lid will cause a plurality of sections of the inner band to engage the top rim and impede removal of the container lid from the base container.

Abstract: It is desired to provide a creasing device of which the distances between rollers of a plurality of creasing units are individually adjustable. A plurality of creasing units 40 each comprising a female creasing roll 41 and a male creasing roll 42 provided thereunder are provided so as to be positionable in a direction perpendicular to the feed direction of a corrugated sheet S0. As many roller arms 43 as the creasing units 40 are provided so as to be pivotable about a common first drive shaft 31. Each roller arm 43 rotatably supports one of the male creasing rolls 42. By pivoting each roller arm 43 with a pivoting means 45, the male creasing roll 42 is moved relative to the corresponding female creasing roll 41, thereby adjusting the distance between the rolls.

  • Patent number: 7549955
Abstract: In a printer system where a print head is used to print on a flat material moving on a surface along a moving direction, a first creasing surface and a second creasing surface disposed on different sides of the flat material are used to make a crease on the flat material. The first creasing surface is mounted on a housing and the second creasing surface is disposed along the length of a track substantially perpendicular to the moving direction. The first and second creasing surfaces are substantially complementary to each other such that when these creasing surfaces are moved closer to each other, they cause the flat material to bend. A movement mechanism is then used to move the housing along the track so that the bending of the flat material forms a crease from one side of the flat material to the opposing side.
