  • Patent number: 11174065
Abstract: A method of sealing reinforced packages. The method can comprise moving an open-ended package in a downstream direction on a package conveyor by engaging the open-ended package with a chain flight of the package conveyor moving in the downstream direction. The method further can comprise forming a bag with a closed end by engaging at least a seal portion of a tail section of an open-ended tube portion of the open-ended package between the chain flight of the package conveyor and a hot plate positioned adjacent the package conveyor. The chain flight can move with the tail section in the downstream direction relative to the hot plate, which can transfer thermal energy to the tail section to at least partially form a seal along the seal portion in the tail section to at least partially form the closed end of the bag.

  • Patent number: 6688084
Abstract: A machine and method for applying reinforcing strapping to bulk boxes. The machine includes a plurality of strapping head assemblies arranged in series, with each adapted to apply a strap in encircling relationship to a box at a predetermined location on the box. As the box advances through successive strapping head assemblies, straps are applied in predetermined spaced relationship on the box, until the desired number of straps have been applied. The number, spacing and tension of the straps may be quickly and easily adjusted. In an embodiment of the invention, the strapping head assemblies are arranged in pairs in individual modules. A recovery strapping head assembly is provided just prior to exit from the machine to apply any strapping missed by a preceding strapping head assembly.

  • Patent number: 6637646
Abstract: A shipping container having an internal plastic bag is described, as is the method of forming the container. A flat container blank if first formed. This differs from a conventional blank only in that it has blind score lines centered vertically on each of the end panels. Adhesive strips are placed on or adjacent the major score lines separating the face and end panels of the container. Either a flat or gusseted bag is then laid on the blank with a sealed bottom edge adjacent the outside edges of the bottom flaps of the container. An open end of the bag extends beyond the upper edge of the container. The blank is then folded along the blind score lines to form a partially assembled container that can be shipped flat. Final assembly can be readily done in the field. The container eliminates the need for field insertion of the bag where one is required.

  • Patent number: 4653252
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a combination of a case accommodating a flexible ynthetic plastics container or bag having a pouring opening and filled at least partly with liquid. The starting point for forming the case is a blank having such folding lines and cuts that when the blank is folded about the synthetic plastics bag, the latter is automatically fixed in the case being formed. The blank has two rectangular portions, one so-called base portion and a top face portion, which portions are interconnected by a second end face panel. The two edges of the base portion opposite the second end face panel and the top face portion connect with a first end face panel and a third end face panel, respectively. The opposed free edges of the base portion and the top face portion connect with side panels, and at least a part of the end face panels is provided with flaps. The various portions are interconnected by means of folding lines.

  • Patent number: 4505694
Abstract: For the fabrication of a bag-in-box (BIB) package, there is first provided a semifinished, collapsed BIB package wherein a flattened bag is placed within a collapsed box and secured to at least one of its inside surfaces by means of an adhesive. After erecting the package, the bag is inflated into close internal contact with the box by introducing a gas under pressure through a fitment attached to the bag and projecting outwardly of the box. The opposite ends of the box are closed with sets of foldable end flaps, with the aid of an adhesive. Preferably, the bag is further secured to the inside surfaces of a pair of opposed ones of the four bottom end flaps of the box. The opposed pair of bottom flaps are held folded out during the introduction of the pressurized gas into the bag, in order that the bottom end portion of the inflated bag may make neat contact with the inside surfaces of the box. There is also disclosed herein an apparatus for thus fabricating the BIB package.
