  • Patent number: 7260856
Abstract: In certain preferred embodiments, the present invention provides a cot assembly that includes side pieces, supporting end pieces and bedding material. Preferably the cot assembly holds the end pieces a spaced apart distance, and in one feature allows a side piece to be selectively released. In one embodiment, the end pieces move towards each other to release a side piece, optionally by sliding a side piece through an end piece channel. In one preferred embodiment, the bedding material is mounted to and retained by the end pieces and extends across the interior of the cot to overlap or enclose the side pieces without any gaps between the material, the side pieces and the end pieces. In other embodiments, the invention includes an improved method for attaching the material to the end pieces and an improved cot assembly method. In a preferred option, the bedding material is continuously attached to the end piece along a portion of an end piece.

  • Patent number: 7207622
Abstract: A lounge chair having a frame supported by legs, which may or may not have wheels incorporated therewith, and at least first and second adjustable backrest portions pivotally attached to the chair. When a sunbather wishes to sit on the lounge chair in an inclined position with his or her back supported, he or she inclines one of the backrest members which will position the sunbather in the most optimal position relative to the sun for sun bathing. As the sun passes overhead to a point which causes the sunbather's exposure to the sun to be diminished, the sunbather may merely drop the first backrest portion down to a horizontal or other desired position, adjust the second backrest portion to a position of inclination which suits the sunbather, and turn him or herself around 180° to lay in the opposite direction in the lounge chair.

  • Publication number: 20030074733
Abstract: The present invention provides a cot assembly that includes a frame, supporting corner pieces and bedding material. The frame is preferably of a one or two piece construction and is shaped into a perimeter defining an interior area. Corner pieces support the frame above an external support surface. The bedding material extends across the interior of the frame and into the corner pieces without any gaps between the material, the frame and corner pieces, thereby protecting against injury which could otherwise result from the presence of such gaps. The continuous frame maintains the cot's rigidity while the corner pieces lower the cot's profile for stacking. The cot includes at least a number of corner pieces corresponding to the corners of the polygonal shape. A pedestal extends downwardly from each corner piece to engage the floor or other supporting surface. In a preferred form, each of the corner pieces includes top and bottom portions defining a slot therebetween for receiving the bedding material.

  • Patent number: 5590825
Abstract: Disclosed is a lightweight backpack and its frame. The design of the frame accommodates use as a structure for shaping and supporting a recreational hiking or military infantry backpack while in a folded and compact arrangement, and additionally, accommodates use for shaping and supporting material for use as a sleeping cot able to support the body weight of a human while in and unfolded elongated arrangement. In either the folded or unfolded arrangement, the backpack may be easily removed or reattached to the frame. The cot material is also easily detachable for purposes of replacement of worn material and its arrangement in conjunction with the frame is also intended to serve in part as padding and back support for the wearer. The hinge and lock at the frame's hinge joints aids the user in fold out and break down of the frame and also adds strength to the frame while in both the folded and unfolded position.

  • Patent number: 5544864
Abstract: A collapsible, portable child's play-pen, which may be foldably collapsed onto two half-members which are pivotably coupled together along an axis and which together form a base for the play-pen, which may then be subsequently folded together to form a compact portable unit. First and second frame members, each pivotably coupled to the base along parallel but mutually opposite edges of the base, form one set of opposite side walls of the play-pen. Each of the first and second frame members are provided with a respective pair of first and second pivotable linking arms. One end of each of the first pair of linking arms is pivotably coupled to a first frame member, and similarly one end of each linking arm of the second pair of linking arms is pivotably coupled to the second frame member.

  • Patent number: 5438721
Abstract: An apparatus and method for managing waste from patient care, maintenance, and/or treatment includes an inflatable bladder member disposed to support at least a first portion of the body of the patient. A flexible basin member is fitted over the bladder and receives waste materials, and a filter sheet is disposed atop the basin member. The basin member is connected to a liquid/gas separator and a vacuum blower. A liquid waste pump is connected to the separator to transfer liquid waste to a holding jug. A vacuum wand provides both suction and rinsing liquid via an on-demand pumping supply configuration that enables the rinsing liquid supplied from a rinse jug to be heated. Liquid levels in the rinse liquid jug, the holding jug, and the separator's holding reservoir are sensed by capacitive level sensing devices which supply signals to a microprocessor which controls various functions of the apparatus. Special inflatable sacks are provided to assist turning the patient to facilitate cleansing of the patient.

  • Patent number: 5301377
Abstract: A portable cot which is light in weight, may be disassembled into a compact package but which forms a firm sleeping surface when assembled. The cot has a generally rectangular canvas surface with an elongated pocket along each side. Side rails are held in each of the pockets and three leg assemblies are affixed to the side rails by wire U-shaped legs pivotally attached to the bottom to a base bar and at the top to the side rails. Adjustable straps tighten the side rails against the legs and form a firm assembly with the base bars. The straps may be adjusted so that the bed can be made level even against a slanted surface.

  • Patent number: 4947498
Abstract: A portable collapsible bed, comprising a mainframe having opposite ends and having legs adjacent each end. A subframe having opposite ends has one end pivotally connected to one end of the mainframe. The subframe has collapsible legs spaced a substantial distance from the other end of the subframe but closer to that other said end than to the one end of the subframe. The legs of the subframe define a seating face. The legs of the subframe are releasably secured in a first position at a substantial angle to the subframe, and are mounted for swinging movement from that first position in a direction away from the one end of the subframe into a second position in which the subframe legs lie against the other end of the subframe, that is, the end remote from the mainframe.

Abstract: A collapsible bed has a head frame and a foot frame that are of shaped metal tube. At each end of each frame there is a "U"-shaped recess. Two bars extend between the frames. At each end of each bar there is a disc with a peripheral channel. The discs seat in the recesses and lock therein. A sheet of material extends between the bars, the bars passing through casings on opposed sides of the sheet. The inner sides of the recesses of each frame slope towards one another to assist in guiding the discs into the recesses and to stretch the sheet of material.

  • Patent number: 4688281
Abstract: A readily set-up and knocked-down portable bed assembly for animals or persons includes flexible sheeting for supporting such animal or person and a frame assembly which includes a plurality of interengageable short side members, connectable to the flexible sheeting so as to brace and support the flexible sheeting. Each frame side member includes opposite end portions interengageable with opposed complementary end portions of adjacently - positionable frame side members. For ready set up, the frame side members are adapted such that by linking of all but one pair of opposed frame side members end portions, the last non-linked opposed end portions of adjacently positioned frame side members overlap in the planar position, and are readily connectable by moving the non-linked end portions to a position skewed from the planar position of the otherwise partially assembled structure, in which position the flexible sheeting is bowed.
