Abstract: A convertible sofa-bed which is easy to convert between a sofa configuration and a bed configuration is provided. From a sofa configuration, a buttock-foot member may be pulled outward. Simultaneously, a head rest member and back rest member which are initially at a generally vertical position are traversed to a generally horizontal position. When the buttock-foot member is fully traversed outward (i.e., extended position), the head rest member, back rest member and the buttock-foot member are generally substantially coplanar and generally horizontal. This provides a firm bed. From the bed configuration, head rest member and the back rest member may be buckled to allow the buttock-foot member to be pushed inward. • Patent number: 8468621
Abstract: A furniture product includes a folding mechanism that folds into a seat frame. The folding mechanism includes a rear section, a middle section, and a front section, with the rear and middle sections being received in a cavity in the back of the seat frame when the product is in a stowed, seating position. Upon receiving a user input, a position motor deploys the folding mechanism into a sleeping position. Upon achieving the sleeping position, an inflation switch is engaged. An air pump disposed in or near the furniture product is activated in response to engagement of the inflation switch. To return the product to a stowed, seating position, a user input causes the air pump to deflate the mattress and the position motor to fold the folding mechanism into the seat frame.

In one embodiment, user-support frames include a head-support frame anchored by a link assembly to a furniture-item base and a back-support frame pivotably coupled to the head-support frame. The link assembly facilitates both pivoting and lateral shifting of the head-support frame relative to the furniture-item base. In the bed configuration, a cam and cam follower are disposed under the user-support frames, such that when the user-support frames laterally shift, the cam contacts the cam follower, thereby upwardly moving a junction at which user-support frames are hinged to one another.

The mechanism is characterised in that the angle-bars constitute a release mechanism which enables the three positions, stable respect to the divan bed base, while the quadrilater stiffly moves the angle-bars in other three positions. • Patent number: 6357062
Abstract: A futon frame that has a seat piece and back piece pivotably joined to one another so that they can occupy substantially flat and also angled configurations relative one another. In the flat configuration the pieces serve as a couch or futon, and in the angled configuration they serve as a couch or sofa. The joined seat and back pieces move in rollers in appropriately positioned slots in side arms and legs which are joined at each distal end to the seat and back pieces. Each of the flat (sleeping or bed) or angled (seating or couch) position or configuration of the pieces is held stable for use by the rollers that become lodged in the ends of the respective guide slots. A solid block is attached below the back piece that engages the seat piece when the frame is converted from bed to couch. The block allows the seat piece to be used as an efficient lever to raise the back piece without major physical effort while the edge of the seat piece is pushed and used as a lever handle.

  • Patent number: 6298504
Abstract: A two frame sofa bed recliner has a seat frame, a back frame, and a pair of arm frames connected to both sides of the recliner. Vertical and horizontal slots are located in each of the arm frames. A first pin connected to a side of an upper portion of the back frame extends into the vertical slot. A second pin connected tog a lower portion of a side of the back frame extends into the horizontal slot. The pins move along the slots to guide the recliner from an upright to a fully reclined position and vice verse. An enlarged corner of the vertical slot securely engages the first pin when the recliner is in the fully reclined position preventing the recliner from jackknifing upward. Counter absorbing elements are fixedly attached to the side of the seat frame absorbs stress or pressure from the slots as the pins move therein and this stress is transferred uniformly along the attached surface of the seat frame.

  • Patent number: 5815858
Abstract: The futon includes a back deck guided for movement between horizontal and forwardly-inclined positions by rollers engaging in slots of the side frames of the futon. The seat deck is pivotally secured to the forward end of side extensions of the back deck by inter-engaging slots and pins. To convert from a bed position, the seat deck is initially pulled forwardly to locate the rollers in positions in the guide slots for movement of the back deck from the horizontal position to the inclined position. By pivoting the seat deck upwardly and permitting it to slide downwardly relative to the pins, the seat deck is positioned to leverage the back deck into the inclined position upon pivoting the seat deck back towards its horizontal position. The back deck is thus inclined and locked in the inclined position by the engagement of the rollers in extreme ends of guide slots. The seat deck rests on a futon cross piece and is supported along its rear edge by the slot and pin connection with the back deck.

  • Patent number: 5519902
Abstract: A furniture frame convertible from a first orientation to at least a second orientation includes two sections pivotally connected together and being movable relative to each other to permit the frame to be moved between the first and second orientations. One of the two sections includes a frame member having one end overlapping an end of a frame member of the other of the two sections and a pivot pin interconnects the overlapping ends for providing the pivotal connection between the two sections. A leg member has an upper end positioned between the overlapping ends of the frame members and the pivot pin connects the upper end of the leg member to the overlapping ends of the frame members for permitting pivotal movement of the leg member relative to each of the frame members. A locking and positioning system limits angular movement of the leg member relative to the frame members and locks the leg member against movement relative to the frame members when the leg member is providing a frame-supporting function.
