  • Patent number: 4572174
Abstract: A bed pad structure is provided for the prevention of bed sores or pressure ulcers. The bed pad includes a pouch portion having an upper layer formed from a porous low friction material and a lower layer formed from a flexible impervious sheet material. The pouch portion is further constructed to enable easy insertion and removal of a lubricated insert in between the upper and lower layers. Lubrication from the insert can flow through the porous upper layer. The low friction characteristics of the upper layer plus the presence of the lubricant adjacent the patient substantially prevents friction and related wear which are contributing factors to the occurrence of bed sores.

  • Patent number: 4514870
Abstract: A fire resistant lap protection blanket (20) to be placed across the lap of the driver or passenger of a vehicle to protect clothing from tobacco burns or soiling includes a fire resistant material dimensioned to substantially cover the lap to interrupt debris dropping thereon. A lower pocket (25) is open upwardly below the knees to receive and contain debris collecting on the fire resistant material. A foam backing layer (30) disposed upon the bottom surface of the fabric isolates the lap of the user from hot debris. First and second fastening strips (40, 42) respectively attached to an upper corner of the fabric or foam layer and an arm rest (44) anchor the blanket to the arm rest to prevent unintentional removal of the blanket from the vehicle. The strips (40, 42) are preferably of a quick release type so that the blanket can be removed from the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4442558
Abstract: This invention involves a bed covering incorporating a pouch for a child in which the pouch is part of a fun scene on the bed cover and the child becomes part of the scene while taking a nap. The pouch is of sufficient size to allow free movement of the child and large enough to prevent a child from being trapped in the event that the child becomes twisted around in the pouch. The pouch in this invention is relatively large and is part of the design of the bed cover. The pouch of this invention exhibits localized expansion of the pattern which causes the distortion of the design to be minimized whether or not the pouch is occupied. A unique process to produce localized expansion has been developed and used in this invention.

  • Patent number: 4420847
Abstract: A pillow case providing the usual slip-over cover for a conventional pillow has, over one of its rectangular areas a strip of fabric, generally a contrasting and warmer material that is stitched to one long edge of the pillow case but is of a width somewhat more than half but less than the full width of the pillow case so that the other long edge of the strip is free. The ends of the strip are attached by stitching to the two ends of the pillow case, and there are pleats in the strip clear of the smooth flat central area of the strip. Desirably the strip is cut from a continuous bolt of cloth in the form of alternately reversed trapezoids with the cloth cut diagonally to form the diverging edges of the trapezoids while the original edges of the fabric form the parallel long sides of the trapezoid.

  • Patent number: 4304018
Abstract: A bed covering includes a top covering adapted to overlie the top surface of a mattress, a side covering adapted to be fitted to the mattress and to surround the head end, foot end and sides thereof, and a foldable side panel interconnecting the top covering and side covering along the foot end and at least one side of the mattress so that the mattress, side panel and top covering define somewhat of a sleeping bag type enclosure for receiving a person. A first zipper along the edge of the top covering and top edge of the side covering enable the bed to be made by simply closing the first zipper to thereby foldably collapse and enclose the side panel between the top covering and mattress. A second zipper may be provided between the side panel and side covering to facilitate entry onto the mattress below the bed covering.

  • Patent number: 4274169
Abstract: A bed covering, which functions as a spread, comforter and top sheet, is formed by joining two identically dimensioned layers of fabric which are stitched together along three edges with a foot edge of the layers remaining unstitched. Each layer is generally the size of a spread which fits a particular size bed such as, for example, a single or double size bed. Side and foot edge portions of the layers extend to the floor from the top of the bed to provide a spread effect. Pockets are formed between a central portion of the two layers and are stuffed with a heat-insulating material such as, for example, down or polyester fibers. When the bed covering is placed on a bed, the unstitched edge portion of the bottom layer adjacent to the foot edge is tucked between the mattress and box springs of the bed to secure the bed covering with the bed. Since the tuckable portion is not stuffed, it does not lift the foot of the mattress and holds the bed covering securely.

  • Patent number: 4247961
Abstract: A pillow, which may take the form of an automobile headrest, has a fastener that controls communication to an interior compartment of the pillow. A removable shock absorber liner fits into the interior compartment and defines a pocket which is adapted to receive and store first aid (medical) supplies and emergency equipment. An elastic body fits into the pocket in the liner. The shock absorber liner and the elastic body are both easily removable from the interior of the pillow and are useful as first aid equipment. With the fastener open, a plastic, transparent organizer containing first aid equipment and emergency supplies is inserted into the pocket of the liner. This compresses the elastic body. The fastener is then closed. When the fastener is opened, the organizer is automatically at least partially ejected from the pillow.

  • Patent number: 4169428
Abstract: A sleeping bag for pets is formed from a multiple ply padded sheet of deeply quilted material which is normally folded along its central portion with opposite halves in overlying relationship to form lower and upper layers and with the edge portions of each half in alignment with each other. A closure means, such as a zipper, connects the overlying edge portions of the layers together to form an open-end bag with a pet entry opening at one end. A plurality of small air openings are formed in the edge portions of the layers with each air opening being of a size smaller than the appendage of the pet to use the bag, so that the air openings and the deeply quilted inside surfaces of the sleeping bag form air passages inside the sleeping bag and movement of the pet in the bag usually causes air to enter into and exhaust from the bag. An accessory attachment pocket is formed in the bag structure for the insertion of flea retardant chemicals, etc.
