  • Patent number: 6018830
Abstract: A sleeping bag (11) design for providing adjustability of the inner volume and outer exposed surface area of the bag comprises sheathed drawcords (14), preferably elastic, attached only to the top or upper portion of the bag and secured by cord locks (16) A user of the bag can tighten the drawcords during cold weather, thereby providing a warmer bag by reducing the inner volume and the exposed outer surface area of the bag without reducing the thermal protection provided to the lower portion of the bag by an underlying flat insulated pad, as would be the case with drawcords fully encircling the bag. During warmer weather, the user can relax the drawcord adjustment, thereby providing the user with more freedom of movement. Thus a considerably more versatile sleeping bag is provided--that can be adjusted to provide more warmth during cold weather or more freedom of movement during warmer weather.

  • Patent number: 4979250
Abstract: A blanket and method for swaddling an infant is provided that is both physically and psychologically simulative of the snug encapsulization experienced by the infant when in utero. The blanket is comprised of an upper portion having two symmetric wings. Each wing has a shape and a size sufficient to be wrapped over the shoulder and arm of the infant in front of the infant's body and behind her back. The upper panel extends to form a necked-down panel of reduced width. The blanket is folded along the line of the necked-down panel with a lower panel of increased width being brought up and folded across the front of the infant. The opposing corners of the lower panel can then be wrapped around and behind the infant, leaving the infant snugly encapsulated within the multiple layers of the blanket with no excess accumulation or bagging of material or deficiency of material where needed which might otherwise be formed if the blanket were rectangular or another shape.

  • Patent number: 4903360
Abstract: An article of bedding, such as a bedsheet, bedspread, blanket, or the like, provides additional fabric for a user's feet by means of a pleat formed by a pair of oppositely-folded parallel folds extending across the width of the article. In preferred embodiments, the folds of material forming the pleat are seamed together only at the ends of the pleat so that the medial parts of the pleat can unfold during use. The seams will hold the pleat in place so that when the bed is unoccupied, the folds will lie flat, especially if pressed. The seams may be arranged to coincide with the upper edge of the mattress and, between the seams and the side edges of the mattress, fabric equivalent to two of the three layers of the pleat may be removed to give a flat valance portion.

  • Patent number: 4862535
Abstract: An anti-reflux support system for an infant is disclosed comprising a wedge-shaped support pillow having an inclined infant- supporting surface, an infant torso-encircling sling attachable to the infant-supporting surface of the support pillow, and fasteners carried by at least one of the pillow or the slings for securing the sling on the infant-supporting surface in any one of a plurality of positions. The support pillow includes internal spaced, vertically-oriented support baffles extending between the infant-supporting surface and the bottom surface, and a loose, particulate filler material. The filler material cooperates with the support baffles to impart the wedge-shape to the pillow and to permit the infant-supporting surface to be deformed concavely, and thus conform to the shape of the infant's torso, when the infant is placed on the infant-supporting surface.
