Abstract: A mat for a nursing bed having a number of repeatedly flexing thermoplastics filaments aggregated to form a stereonetwork aggregation having through hole portions for cleaning pipes, ventilating pipes, deodorants, and the like, with notches formed therein for flexibly forming the mat in a reclining motion of the bed to accommodate the body of a person on the mat.

Abstract: An inflatable convective thermal pad is adapted for use under a patient. The pad has a surface on a layer that receives the patient and that provides for the passage of air through the layer and the surface toward the patient. One or more drain openings or channels are provided in the layer for draining fluid from the layer.

Abstract: The ear lavage and medical examination table includes an upper plate and a lower plate connected thereto at the rear ends of the two plates. The upper plate has a front head support portion with an ear lavage drain hole extending down therethrough. Preferably, the upper plate is curved or dished to comfortably support the torso of a patient. The lower plate is preferably horizontal while the upper plate rises thereabove at an angle from the rear end to the front end of the table. In one embodiment the two plates are integral and the angle is fixed. In another embodiment the two plates are interconnected so that the angle and distance therebetween can be adjusted. The table also includes a water catch tray supported on the upper surface of the lower plate directly below the upper plate hole and removeable therefrom for emptying. The tray bears a light and a mirror. The mirror can be secured to a flexible base support slideably disposed in an elongated slot in the tray for accurate positioning of the mirror.

Abstract: A bed, in combination with a flush toilet, has a bed body (1) provided with an opening (2). The opening has a width which is sufficient to accommodate the hips of a sick or disabled person laying on the bed. The opening (2) can be opened and closed by a cover (4). The cover can be withdrawn from a retracted (open) position where it is accommodated on the back of the bed body (3) to close the opening (2). A flush toilet (8) is disposed below the opening (2). A toilet seat (8) is disposed in the opening and has a somewhat cylindrical excreta guide (9) for reliably guiding excreta into the flush toilet (8). The toilet seat (7) can be tilted about a vertical axis by a lift (10). Also, the toilet seat free end is tilted upward so as to be in close contact with the hips of the sick or disabled person.

Abstract: A bathing apparatus to be used on a mattress and being collapsible for volumetric efficient storage and transportation. An impermeable, pliable and semi-flexible sheet has a peripheral edge portion which includes a fold as a peripheral end or rim. The edge portion is kept at a position above the mattress so that the sheet may contain liquids. To keep the peripheral edge portion at this position several arm support assemblies are mounted perpendicular to the mattress around its perimeter. The distal ends of the arm members in the arm support assemblies coact with cooperatively exposed areas of the peripheral fold. A flexible cord is passed through the fold and kept sufficiently tensed to keep the peripheral edge portion at a substantially perpendicular relationship with respect to the plane of the mattress.

Abstract: A shower-bed device that provides a high degree of self-mobility to a handicapped individual during showering. The device includes a platform with a water-resistant, non-slip padded surface with through-holes to allow water to flow therethrough. Large wheels with hand-rims provide the handicapped individual with a way to move the shower-bed. Small wheels that may pivot as well as rotate provide increased maneuverability. Adjustable-railings that prevent the handicapped individual from falling from the platform are also provided.

Abstract: A bed for patient care having a waste disposal system. The bed includes a back, seat and two leg sections for supporting the patient. These sections of the bed may be raised and lowered and tilted. The leg sections may be moved independently for use with patients having one leg immobilized. The seat section includes two panels which part to permit a waste canister to be raised to interface with the buttocks of the patient. An audible signal alerts the patient prior to this action. The waste canister provides a directable bidet wash, and an air drying feature. Gelling material within the canister swells during the bidet function to cover and seal the waste. The entire canister may be sealed and disposed of.

Abstract: A device for washing a user sitting in or reclining on a stretcher including an open-bottomed, double-walled housing defining a washing chamber therein and having a top wall opposite the open bottom, opposing side walls, a front wall and a rear opening opposite the front wall. A door is provided for opening and closing the rear opening and a plurality of nozzles are secured to an interior wall of the housing member for injecting warm water toward the user sitting in or reclining on the stretcher positioned in said washing chamber. The head of the user is located outside the washing chamber.

Abstract: A veterinary surgical table is provided which includes a top animal-supporting surface mounted for inclining and supported by at least one extensible rod which provides counterbalancing support for the weight of the top surface and an animal placed thereon. The top surface is preferably longitudinally bifurcated into two pivotally mounted sections to provide independent tilting of each section toward one another, each section being separately counterbalanced by an extensible rod for such tilting movement. The top surface is preferably supported by the extensible rods in strut-supported configuration for minimizing the framework for supporting the table. A slidably removable tray is mounted beneath the separation between the sections for receiving fluid runoff and for enhanced cleaning and sanitation.

Abstract: A bed with a wash tub for pubes which may reduce nursing work loads and improve conditions of the patients during the washing. The bed 3 with a wash tub for pubes comprises a main frame 5 with legs 5, and a wash tub 21 for pubes positioned at the center of the main frame 5, a mattress 11, 13, 15, laid on the main frame. The wash tub 21 for pubes has a tub body 23, a pair of left and right hip supports 25 partially provided in the tub, a hot water supply means 29 which supplies hot water to a col portion between the hip supports and a drain 31. The patient's hips 2 are placed on the paired hip supports 25 and then the col portion between the hip supports 25 is showered with a hot water to wash the pubes of the patient successfully.

Abstract: A patient bed including castors (1) resting against the floor, legs or a base frame, and a bed framework (2) and a mattress (3), the mattress further including a number of elongated mattress elements (3', 3", etc.), aligned parallel in the longitudinal direction of the bed, and the bed framework being made of a framing of the patient bed to which framing are attached tubes (8) or similar slats, aligned parallel with the mattress elements of the bed and forming an essentially horizontal plane in which each tubular slat is aligned in the crosswise or longitudinal direction of the bed to essentially coincide with a furrow adapted between the mattress elements. The invention is implemented so that the patient bed is provided with means (5-7) for moving the mattress (3) essentially in the vertical direction between a first plane defined by the tubular slats and a second plane below the first plane and for stopping the mattress at a desired elevation between the two planes.

Abstract: A mattress apparatus for incontinent patients includes first and second resilient mattress portions each having a sloping end and a water repellent cover attached thereover. The covers are removably attached together to form a mattress. A liquid drain cover is made of a flexible, water repellent material and has first and second sections and is shaped to fit over the connected first and second resilient mattress portions. Each section of the liquid drain cover has a plurality of elongated ridges extending thereover and forming a plurality of drain grooves therebetween. The drain cover has a liquid collection channel formed between the first and second sections for collecting liquid draining from. The liquid collection channel located between the drain cover sections is connected to a liquid collection container for collecting liquid from the channel. The drain cover has a beaded edge around three sides of each section to block the escape of liquid therefrom.

Abstract: A support system (A) including a cushion (B) for uniformly distributing the weight of an individual uniformly and further circulating air along the individual's body. The cushion (B) has porosity and air cells (4) which project upwardly from the base (2) and are in communication through the base (2) so that all exist at the same air pressure. The base (2) has apertures (14) between the cells (4). The system includes a distributor (20) beneath the cushion base (2) and a duct (30) which connects to one side of the distributor (20). The distributor (20) has a plurality of blunted pillars (24) which support the cushion (B) above the distributor base (22) and create a distribution and access chamber (F) beneath the cushion base (2). The duct (30) can have a vertical section (34,40) connected to a container (42) for collecting liquids. A blower (D) discharges conditioned air into the distribution chamber (20) through the duct (30).

Abstract: An apparatus and method for managing waste from patient care, maintenance, and/or treatment includes an inflatable bladder member disposed to support at least a first portion of the body of the patient. A flexible basin member is fitted over the bladder and receives waste materials, and a filter sheet is disposed atop the basin member. The basin member is connected to a liquid/gas separator and a vacuum blower. A liquid waste pump is connected to the separator to transfer liquid waste to a holding jug. A vacuum wand provides both suction and rinsing liquid via an on-demand pumping supply configuration that enables the rinsing liquid supplied from a rinse jug to be heated. Liquid levels in the rinse liquid jug, the holding jug, and the separator's holding reservoir are sensed by capacitive level sensing devices which supply signals to a microprocessor which controls various functions of the apparatus. Special inflatable sacks are provided to assist turning the patient to facilitate cleansing of the patient.

Abstract: A urological examination apparatus, includes a patient table at the foot of which there is provided a sink which serves to collect fluids and which is provided with a drain. The sink is pivotable about a horizontal shaft which extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the table.

Abstract: A wash water draining device for washing patients in bed has a mattress base, which is formed, for example, by inflatable chambers and is disposed underneath a waterproof bed mattress and slopes the bed mattress from the sides to the center and from the head end to the foot end. A waterproof mattress pad is placed over the mattress and a mattress compressing device is attached centrally to the foot end of the mattress such that a drainage socket of the waterproof mattress pad can be embedded into the resulting and stabilized depression of the bed mattress.

Abstract: A bed (10) for patients requiring bed treatment having a cut out (19) in the base (18) beneath which is a toilet pan (22, 23, 25) preferably having flowing water supply (26) and drain (27) connections. A mattress (35) having one quarter (36) removed is positioned on the base (18) with the open quadrant (36) over the pan (22). A movable mattress segment (40) is positioned on the base (18) in the open quadrant (36) of the mattress (35) and is vertically adjustable to align with the mattress top and laterally movable to expose the pan (22) and allow patients to relieve themselves without having to be moved to insert conventional bed pans. The toilet pan (22) is cleaned using the water supply which is controlled by movement of the movable segment (40). An alternative embodiment has an attachable hot and cold water supply (58) with a wash basin (53) to allow patients to wash themselves.

Abstract: A removable, adjustable ventilation system adapted for use with embalming or autopsy tables for removing vapors from the surface thereof which includes a longitudinal member having a suction slit along its entire length connected to an air removal mechanism. The member is designed to be placed immediately adjacent to the edge of the table so that vapors are removed from the table directly into said suction slit, through a double plenum, and to the outside. A fluid collection trough and access door are provided in the plenum for removal of fluids carried from the table by the suction of at the slit. Adjustable legs are also provided to allow the member to be moved up, down or tilted in accordance with the table.

Abstract: A facial support mask supports the face of a patient in the prone position during surgical procedures in spaced relation above a support surface and in a variety of selectively fixed positions relative to the torso and the support surface. The mask has a plurality of transversely spaced longitudinal crescent arms; at least one cross-strut interconnected with the longitudinal crescent arms; an inflatable chamber attached to the crescent arms and adapted to contact the patient's forehead and sides of his face; means and securement strap for securing the mask to the patient's face. The mask may also include an integral secretion collection dish for draining away secretions during the surgical procedure.
