Patent number: 6316647Abstract: Disclosed herein are a cation-exchanged clay mineral comprising a swelling clay mineral with the cations between layers substantially replaced by low-valence metal amine complexes and/or low-valence metal ammine complexes, and a packing material for chromatography using the same. Use of the packing material provides a sharp peak with respect to a highly unsaturated compound. Since the packing material is unlikely to be influenced by a solvent, it is usable for a long time with good stability.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1999Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Shiseido Company, Ltd.Inventors: Yutaka Ohtsu, Isao Tanaka, Yasuhiko Kadota, Michihiro Yamaguchi

Patent number: 5958818Abstract: Zeolite/clay/phosphate catalysts can be prepared by a process wherein a composition of zeolite-clay-phosphate is brought to a pH level of about 7.0 to about 14.0. The resulting slurry is then age reacted for about 0.5 to about 24 hours. Thereafter the slurry is dried to produce a zeolite/clay/phosphate catalyst particles that are particularly characterized by their high levels of zeolite stability.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: Bulldog Technologies U.S.A., Inc.Inventors: Edward J. Patent number: 5955049Abstract: A silicon dioxide tetrahedron sheet having a specific morphology with the pseudomorphs of the starting raw material of clay minerals for the sheet is prepared, and this is reacted with an alkylonium salt whereby a desired number of the silicon dioxide tetrahedrons are removed from the sheet by the action of the micelles of the alkylonium salt formed on the surface of the sheet to thereby form mesopores in the sheet. The mesopore material of the sheet has phyllo-structured 6-membered skeletons as connected to each other, in which each one phyllo-structured 6-membered skeleton is formed by connecting 6 silicon dioxide tetrahedrons together, and its mesopores are formed by removing a desired number of the silicon dioxide tetrahedrons from the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1998Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Shin-ichi Ogata, Yoshiaki Fukushima

Patent number: 5639492Abstract: A method of increasing the nutritional value of mycotoxin-contaminated animal feed ingested by an animal by feeding the animal an acid-activated montmorillonite clay simultaneously with the mycotoxin-contaminated or ergot-contaminated animal feed. The acid-activated montmorillonite clay can be fed to the animal in any form, e.g., granular, powder, pellets and the like or can be admixed with other animal food or feed supplements, so long as the clay is present in the animal's stomach (digestive tract) at the same time as the mycotoxin-contaminated animal feed in an amount sufficient to absorb or adsorb mycotoxin from the digestive tract of the animal and thereby aid the animal in metabolic absorption of nutrients from the contaminated animal feed.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1995Date of Patent: June 17, 1997Assignee: Amcol International CorporationInventors: Katherine R. Turk, Lawrie Music, Gary W. Beall

Patent number: 5330946Abstract: A bentonite clay-based polymerization catalyst is manufactured by adhering together a plurality of smaller acid-activated bentonite clay particles, using a strong mineral acid, such as H.sub.2 SO.sub.4, as a binder. An acid-activated bentonite clay having a particle size below about 60 mesh, U.S. Sieve Series, preferably calcium bentonite, having calcium as a predominant exchangeable action, is mixed with a strong mineral acid, preferably H.sub.2 SO.sub.4, and water to form the catalyst. The mixture is subjected to intensive mixing, curing and drying to form strong particles capable of grinding to a desired particle size distribution, e.g., -6 mesh to +60 mesh, U.S. Sieve Series, to form the catalyst. Fines resulting from the grinding step are completely recycled to the intensive mixing stage of the process to achieve 100% yield. Some adjustment of acid content of the mix may be needed to take into account the acid carried into the mix by recycled fines.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1993Date of Patent: July 19, 1994Assignee: American Colloid CompanyInventors: Russell E. Patent number: 4565794Abstract: Sericitic clays can be treated so as to produce silica gel and an adsorbent, absorbent product capable of being utilized in many different applications. In treating such clays to produce such products, finely ground clay particles are digested with an alkali so as to produce an alkali silicate solution which is separated from the remaining inorganic material. The latter is digested with an acid so as to remove alumina values. The particles remaining should then be washed and dried prior to being used as an adsorbent, absorbent material. The alkali silicate solution is preferably subjected to electrolysis to bleach contaminants within the solution and then treated with an acid so as to gel the silicate. After the gel is formed, the gel and the solution are neutralized. The gel is then separated and dried.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1983Date of Patent: January 21, 1986Assignee: John StephensInventor: Francis de Buda
