Abstract: Improved emulsion breakers in the form of polyol acrylate polymers in water/oil emulsions have relatively high polymer contents and low inversion viscosities. The emulsion breakers can be prepared by mixing together acrylate monomer, polyol, water, liquid petroleum product, and emulsifier, followed by homogenization of the mixture; the latter is then subjected to free radical polymerization to polymerize the polyol and monomer in situ within the mixture.

Abstract: Disclosed is the use of alkoxylated dendrimers for breaking oil/water emulsions. The alkoxylated dendrimers have a molecular weight of from 2400 to 100 000 g/mol and have been alkoxylated with C2-C4-alkylene oxide groups or a mixture of such alkylene oxide groups such that the alkoxylated dendrimer has a degree of alkoxylation of from 1 to 100 alkylene oxide units per free OH group. The alkoxylated dendrimers are added to the oil/water emulsions in amounts of from 0.0001 to 5% by weight, based on the oil content of the emulsion to be demulsified.

Abstract: Compounds of the formula H(CH2)zCOO—[C2H4O]xCyH2y+1 where z is 0-2, x is an integer from 1 to 5 and y is an integer from 4-9 are used as emulsion breakers and defoamers in formation treatment fluids in the recovery of hydrocarbons from subterranean formations. A preferred material has the formula HCOO—[C2H4O]3C6H7.

Abstract: The present invention relates to resins obtained by reacting a compound of formula 1 with an aldehyde and alkoxylating, in any order:
wherein
X is —OH,
Y is ortho-, meta- or para- to X and is a radical of formula 4,
wherein R5 is a C1-C30-alkyl, C2-C30-alkenyl, C6-C18-aryl, or C7-C30-alkylaryl. The resin has a molecular mass from 250 to 100,000 and is useful in methods of breaking oil-water emulsions.

Abstract: A composition comprising an oxyalkylated phenol-aldehyde resin and an acrylic acid component wherein the ratio by weight of oxyalkylated phenol-aldehyde resin to an acrylic acid component is in the range of from about 0.2:1 to about 4:1 is disclosed. The thus-obtained composition is employed in a process for demulsifying an oil and water emulsion which comprises adding the composition to the oil and water emulsion to thereby form a mixture and permitting a phase separation to occur, by known methods, e.g. settling, to thereby produce a hydrocarbon phase and a water phase. In an alternative embodiment, a process for emulsifying an oil and water emulsion which comprises adding an oxyalkylated phenol-aldehyde resin and an acrylic acid component to the oil and water emulsion to thereby form a mixture and permitting a phase separation to occur to thereby produce a hydrocarbon phase and a water phase is disclosed.
Abstract: The invention concerns demulsifiers and methods of demulsifying based on polyalkyl (meth)acrylated co-oligomers or copolymers, CNP, built up from the following components consisting essentially of:A) 10 to less than 60 weight % of alkyl (meth)acrylic acid esters (CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R)C(O)OR.sub.1), wherein the alkyl group is an optionally branched alkyl group having 1 to 32 carbon atoms;B) more than 40 to 90 weight % (meth)acrylic acid esters of alkoxylated radicals (CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R)C(O)O(R.sub.A).sub.n --(R.sub.B).sub.m --R.sub.2 ), wherein R.sub.2 has 1 to 50 carbon atoms and is an optionally branched alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, aryl group, or an alkaryl group; R.sub.A and R.sub.B represent the alkoxylation radicals a) --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O--, b) --CH(CH3)--CH.sub.2 --O--, or c) --CH.sub.2 --CH(CH.sub.
