  • Patent number: 6495074
Abstract: A method of maintaining as well as restoring the condition of weathered asphalt shingles and strips which are applied to flat roofs, pitched roofs, or vertical walls. The process involves applying resaturant neat or as a water emulsion. Suitable resaturants include fatty acid methyl esters, petroleum distillates, and water emulsions thereof. The process restores the suppleness and softness of the weathered shingles or strip and adds about three years to the lifetime of the roof. The process may be repeated for additional lifetime extension.

  • Patent number: 6489498
Abstract: Silanes of the general formula are prepared, wherein R1, R2 and R3 in the molecule are the same or different and represent aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon groups, R4 is a divalent hydrocarbon group with 4 to 12 carbon atoms and a lateral hydroxyl group, wherein the hydrocarbon group can be interrupted by an ether oxygen, R5 is a hydrophilic, ionic group. A method for synthesizing these compounds is described. The silanes greatly lower the surface tension of aqueous solutions, the surface tension being reduced to values of about 23 mN/m. The silanes are biologically degradable and have pronounced surfactant properties.

  • Patent number: 6187044
Abstract: Compositions and methods are disclosed for filling prostheses for implantation into human soft tissue. The compositions comprise at least one nonionic surfactant, such as a polysorbate, which can be provided to fill a physiologically compatible shell or containment sac of the prosthesis. The liquid compositions of the present invention have a relatively high viscosity and are quickly absorbed from body tissues, metabolized and excreted with no known adverse effect. The compositions can be injected into the physiologically compatible shell either before, during or after the surgical implantation procedure.

  • Patent number: 5968872
Abstract: The present invention teaches silicone polyether copolymers with a low degree of polymerization (3 to 4 Si units) provide control for foams generated by organosilicone based surfactants in water without the need for an additional antifoam component. The copolymer foam control agent is a compound of the formula(CH.sub.3).sub.3 SiO[SiO(CH.sub.3).sub.2 ].sub.X [SiOCH.sub.3 R.sup.1 ].sub.Y Si(CH.sub.3).sub.3wherein X+Y=1 to 2, Y.gtoreq.1, R.sup.1 is an alkyleneoxide group of the formula C.sub.a H.sub.2a O(C.sub.3 H.sub.6 O).sub.z R.sup.2 wherein a=3 to 4, z is 1 to 15, R.sup.2 is hydrogen, a hydrocarbon radical of 1 to 4 carbons or acetyl. This invention provides compositions for use in agricultural formulations that give improved foam control for foams generated from organosilicone surfactants in aqueous systems. The copolymer foam control agent is soluble in a surfactant matrix comprised of an organosilicone surfactant alone or in mixtures with short chain conventional surfactants.
