  • Patent number: 8875445
Abstract: Manufactured modular units for the creation of multistory buildings are staggered stacked so as to create “bonus spaces” between units. Several lighter weight structural versions are presented. The first is a wood frame or cold rolled shape light gauge metal framed modular unit. The second version uses cross laminated timber panels to create the modular unit. The third version uses hot rolled steel shapes for the structure of the modular unit to be staggered stacked. These lighter weight modular units have many advantages. They are more easily transported at a lower fuel costs. They can be craned to higher levels with a single crane. Seismic forces are decreased. Less modular unit weight also allows for greater unit area. Thus, fewer units need to be transported and fewer units need to be craned. Also, a larger unit area and larger “bonus” area allows for more flexible space planning.

  • Patent number: 7581357
Abstract: The present invention provides a system, or kit, of injection molded panels having integrated connectors which combine to form an enclosure, commonly in the form of a utility shed. The panels are formed of injection molded plastic to interlock with one another without the need for separate I-beam connectors. The ends of the wall panels have cavities to accept both roof and floor outwardly projecting locking bosses for interlocking cooperative engagement which serve to rigidly connect the components together. The symmetry of the wall, roof, floor and door components also minimizes component shapes and simplifies enclosure construction.

Abstract: A portable building has a first side wall 1, a second side wall 2, a pair of end walls 3 and 4, a floor, and overlapping roof parts 5 and 6. The first side wall 1 is able to move in a direction away from the second side wall 2 with the result that space within the building is substantially increased. The building is formed such that as the first side wall 1 moves the overlap between the roof parts 5 and 6 reduces so as to accommodate the increased space within the building. Movement of the first side wall 1 creates substantial wall openings between the first side wall 1 and the end walls 3 and 4. The openings are closed off with doors, a panels, windows, or any combination of these, in each case made to match the wall openings.

Abstract: A suite of hardened high security steel & concrete modules for protection of people, pets and valuables during a tornado, hurricane, home intrusion or other emergency. A Modular Security Suite [MSS™] is an above ground set of two or more rooms whose steel plate walls extend deep down into a building's concrete or other material foundation and are primarily anchored by the foundation's steel reinforcement rods and the weight of building's concrete foundation. After construction and interior decoration a MSS unit disappears into the home or office floorplan. A MSS unit could include a full bathroom, kitchenette or pantry and a hallway module with built-in bunk beds. Its steel plate walls are filled with concrete and rerod to greatly increase its resistance to serve weather and debris. The design's hallway module and its two steel and concrete pocket doors protect its interior doorways from damage and provides two exits.

  • Patent number: 7540120
Abstract: A multi-level apartment building includes vertically stacked sections each containing at least one pair of apartments, where each apartment of an apartment pair contains a stairway assembly coupled to a vertically extending stair support wall assembly that contains utility distribution conduits. The stairway assembly for each apartment connects four levels of function space. One apartment of the pair in a vertical section is rotated 180 degrees in plan in relation to the other apartment of the pair which is entered on the opposite side of a public corridor that provides access to the apartments of the pair. The apartments are vertically stacked in alignment where an apartment of a pair is mirrored in plan in relation to a vertically underlying or overlying apartment of another pair, and the stair support assemblies of the respectively vertically stacked apartments are vertically aligned.

Abstract: The present invention provides a portable shippable morgue system. The system may comprise (1) bottom, top and corner rails, and (2) corner fittings. Corner rails extend between bottom and top rails and connect them together to form a square and/or rectangular shaped frame. Bottom rails may include forklift engagement areas. Corner fittings are located at the connection point of the vertical corner rails and top rails. A top is positioned between the top rails and a bottom is positioned between the bottom rails. Vertically opposed end walls may be positioned between the top and bottom rails. The invention provides first and second spaced apart opposed vertical platforms, each in abutting engagement or engageable with a top rail and a bottom rail. The invention further provides a remains storage unit.

Abstract: A side expandable shelter system having a transport mode in which a side expandable section(s) is completely nested within an (ISO-style) main shelter section, and a deployment mode in which the side expandable section is completely protracted from the main shelter section. The side expandable shelter system comprises a flooring structure for the side expandable section provided by a hinged flooring panel assembly consisting of at least two floor panels hinged together so that they can be stacked compactly in a vertical direction when the side expandable section is retracted within the main shelter section, in a nested manner, so as to be completed contained therewithin its transport mode, and extended in horizontal direction when the side expandable section is projected from the main shelter section during the deployment mode. Both single and double side expandable shelter systems are provided.
