Patent number: 6642288Abstract: The invention relates to a flame-retardant polyester or polyamide composition that contains a combination of a compound derived from triazine and an organic phosphorus compound. By choosing as the triazine compound a melamine condensation product, for example melam, a UL 94 V-0 and GWFI 960° classification can be obtained for glass-fibre reinforced polyester or polyamide with a relatively low concentration of flame-retardant additives, and without good mechanical properties being affected. Unusual is moreover that the CTI value can again be brought to 600 Volt for this glass-fibre reinforced polyester or polyamide. In a preferred embodiment use is made of a phosphorus-containing compound containing more than 14 wt. % P. The use thereof with for example melamine cyanurate results in optimum flame-retardant behaviour at a low total concentration of flame-retardant additives. Important additional aspects are improved crystallisation behaviour and a high stiffness.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2000Date of Patent: November 4, 2003Assignee: DSM N.V.Inventor: Richerdes J. M. Patent number: 6153304Abstract: Articles of manufacture are provided with a low surface energy, permanently non-stick, non-fouling and ice-phobic surface by a system of coating comprising applying a primary coating having a surface energy of 22-28 dynes/cm.sup.2 comprising a novel polymeric material having non-stick and hardness properties and then applying a top coating having lower surface energy of from about 18-21 dynes/cm.sup.2 comprising a siliconic polymer and interdigitating means to make the top coating permanent, the means preferably comprising a bi- or polyfunctional organic compound adapted to wet the surface of the primary coating and chemically or physically bond thereto and to couple to the siliconic polymeric substance in the top coating. The coated substrates are resistant to marking by graffiti, to adherence by marine fouling organisms, and frozen ice on the surface is easily removed.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1999Date of Patent: November 28, 2000Assignee: Decora IncorporatedInventors: John Ralph Smith, Nissim N. Patent number: 6127450Abstract: The present invention provides a resin-based dental restorative that exhibits high condensability, low volumetric shrinkage and low shrinkage stress. To this end, one or more of a rheological modifier, dispersant and fluorocopolymer are mixed with a methacrylate resin and a fine mineral filler in amounts effective to improve the condensability of the resulting composite to achieve amalgam-like condensation, to reduce the volumetric shrinkage to less than about 2% during polymerization, to improve wear resistance, and to provide a composite with generally improved physical properties.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1998Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Kerr CorporationInventor: Christos Angeletakis
