Abstract: Polyvinylidene fluoride compositions have their flexibility improved by incorporation therewith of a minor proportion of one or more esters formed between at least one aliphatic diol such as 2,2-dimethyl 1,3-propanediol, a polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, a polypropylene glycol, tetramethyleneglycol, a polytetramethyleneglycol or an aliphatic triol such as glycerol, and a monocarboxylic acid of aliphatic chain containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms or a monocarboxylic acid of aromatic radical such as benzoic acid. Polyvinylidene fluorides of improved flexibility are particularly useful for manufacturing flexible tubes for conveying various fluids such as, for example, hot water, chemical products, hydrocarbons.
Abstract: Medical articles made of a resin composition comprising a polyvinyl chloride and a tetracarboxylic tetraester are provided. As examples of the tetracarboxylic tetraester are mentioned tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenylethertetracarboxylate, tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenylmethanetetracarboxylate, tetra(n-dodecyl) 2,3,3',4'-biphenyl-1,1-ethanetetracarboxylate, tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl-2,2-propanetetracarboxylate and the like. The tetracarboxylic tetraester is incorporated in an amount from 20 to 120, preferably from 30 to 100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polyvinyl chloride. As dissolution and migration to the surface of the article of the plasticizer tetracarboxylic tetraester are low in the medical articles, said medical articles produce no adverse effects upon body fluids such as blood when contacted. Examples of preferred medical articles are blood preservation vessels, catheters and blood transfusion sets.
Abstract: A pigment dispersing resin which essentially consists of a modified polymer obtained by introducing at least one of acidic groups and basic groups into a polymeric polyol of star-shaped structure prepared by reacting a polyol having at least four hydroxyl groups per molecule with an epoxide, the resin being compatible with pigments and vehicle resins, and a pigment dispersed paste which comprises the pigment dispersing resin and a pigment, the pigment dispersed paste being low in viscosity over a long period of time.
Abstract: A polyamide acid composition for preparing a polyimide which can extend the pot life of the composition comprising a solution of a polyamide acid in an organic solvent, the polyamide acid being a precursor of the polyimide, a dehydrating agent, a catalyst and a pot life extending agent which can lower a rate of conversion of the polyamide acid to the polyimide, and the process for preparing the polyimide from said polyamide acid composition. According to the present invention the pot life can be extremely extended to give the composition an enough flowability for a long time without reducing the excellent properties such as a heat resistance and an electric insulation of the obtained polyimide.

Abstract: Stabilizer compositions for halogen-containing polymers are provided composed of a .beta.-diketone as well as metal and organotin enolate salts thereof; and a hydrotalcite having the general formula:Mg.sub.1-x Al.sub.x (OH).sub.2 A.sub.x/2.mH.sub.2 Owhereinx is a number from 0 to 0.5;A is CO.sub.3.sup.= or SO.sub.4.sup.=, andm is a number representing the number of H.sub.2 O in the molecule. The stabilizer compositions are effective in enhancing the resistance to deterioration by heat and light of halogen-containing polymers and especially polyvinyl halide resins. The .beta.-diketone and hydrotalcite in these compositions exhibit a synergistic stabilizing effectiveness superior to either alone in like amount.
Abstract: This invention is directed to compositions useful as ionomeric hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive compositions. These compositions comprise a polymer containing carboxylic acid, a miscible metal salt, and an o-methoxy-substituted aryl acid. These compositions display low melt viscosity, simplifying application, as well as improved adhesive properties, especially shear resistance.
Abstract: This invention relates to a powdered phenolic resin composition suitable for the production of dry processed resinbonded felt. The phenolic resin composition imparts a good release of the felt from the heated platen or belt and has a rapid cure rate. The powdered phenolic composition is composed of a novolac type phenolic resin, or a mixture of novolac and resole type with an aromatic carboxylic acid as an additive. The resin mixture has a bulk density of 0.29-0.36 gm/cm.sup.3, and contains 0.3-5 parts by weight of the aromatic carboxylic acid to 100 parts by weight of phenolic resin. Said aromatic carboxylic acid has the formulaR--Ar--COOHwhereinR is selected from hydrogen, hydroxy or alkoxy groups, andAr is selected from phenyl, phenylalkenyl or phenylalkyl groups.
Abstract: Described is a genus of compounds defined according to the structure: ##STR1## wherein Z represents carbinol having the structure: ##STR2## or carboxaldehyde having the structure: ##STR3## and wherein R represents 3-heptanyl or phenyl produced by (i) reacting a carboxylic acid with 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol to form the compound wherein Z represents carbinol; (ii) and then, if, desired, subsequently reacting the resulting alcohol to form an aldehyde; and organoleptic uses of such compounds in the field of perfumery, colognes and perfumed articles (e.g. perfumed polymers, or solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions, drier-added fabric softener articles, hair preparations, hair sprays, bath preparations and the like).

Abstract: Filled thermoplastic compositions useful as sound deadening sheeting having improved tensile elongation are obtained by blending about 5-60 percent by weight of a mixture of at least two copolymers of ethylene, having specified polar comonomer contents, about 40-90 percent by weight of filler, 0-15 percent by weight of plasticizer selected from the group consisting of processing oils, polyesters, polyethers and polyether esters, and optionally modifying resins such as elastomeric polymers and certain other ethylene and propylene homo- and copolymers.
Abstract: Pigment is finely dispersed in hydrolyzed ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer by subjecting the copolymer to which pigment has previously been added by simple, non-intensive mixing to solution hydrolysis and/or by adding pigment to the solution hydrolysis medium prior to or during hydrolysis of the copolymer therein.
Abstract: Polymers of esters of methacrylic acid having an average chain length of about 6 to about 50 mers are prepared by an anionic polymerization reaction, carried out in the presence of a chain-regulating alcohol and a catalytic amount of an alkoxide anion, in which control of the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the polymer are achieved by regulating the ratio of the total quantity of alcohol employed to the total monomer charge. These polymers, their hydrolysis products, and their derivatives have a wide variety of applications, including use as components in films, coatings, fibers, impregnants, adhesives, printing inks, and binders, and use as modifiers, plasticizers, melt flow improvers, and leveling agents.
