The polyolefin product of the nucleation can be molded into shaped articles.

    Abstract: This invention relates to novel hydroxy-functional polyester diluents, and more particularly, to acrylic-modified hydroxy-functional polyester reactive diluents useful for blending with a variety of thermosetting or thermoplastic film-forming polymers. More specifically, the hydroxy-functional polyester reactive diluents are essentially low molecular weight polyesters derived from triols, and a combination of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and saturated monocarboxylic acids. These hydroxy-functional polyester diluents may be copolymerized with one or more acrylic monomers, i.e. hydroxy-functional acrylic monomers, and blended with a variety of thermosetting or thermoplastic film-forming polymers. These blends of the film-forming polymers and the hydroxy-functional polyester diluents can be crosslinked with conventional crosslinking agents such as isocyanates and used in the formulation of low VOC paint compositions particularly useful as automotive topcoats.

    Abstract: A tacking agent is provided for use in temporarily adhering electronic components and providing fluxing properties for soldering electronic assemblies. The tacking agent comprises a fluxing agent and a tackifier. The fluxing agent is composed of one or more carboxylic acids having the formula ##STR1## where R is an alkyl group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R' is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and hydroxyl, and R" is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl and carboxyl. The tackifier comprises one or more alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbon solvents, aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, or polymers. The tacking agent is deposited onto a printed circuit board or other substrate, the electronic components are placed into the deposited tacking agent and soldered. During solder reflow the fluxing agent provides fluxing action for the soldering process, and the tackifier volatilizes, leaving little or no residue on the printed circuit board.

Typically the starting material for the improved product of this invention is a composition comprising a blend of an EVA polymer and a fatty acid which is miscible in all proportions with mineral spirits at 25.degree. C. or forms a solution at a level 5% of fatty acid in mineral spirits, such as coconut or palm fatty acids.

    Abstract: A curable rubber bladder stock containing esters of ricinoleic acid or derivatives thereof has reduced viscosity as compared to stocks containing castor oil. The rubber stocks of the present invention generally retain a very high percentage of the initial cure tensile strength and have improved modulus as compared to castor oil, both upon initial cure and upon aging. Lower viscosity and higher modulus of the rubber stocks of the present invention readily permit the production of thinner bladders. The bladders can fit within an article such as a tire during vulcanization of the tire as in an automatic vulcanizing press. Thinner bladders effect a greater heat rate and result in shorter cure times for articles such as tires. The esters of ricinoleic acid and derivatives thereof have the formula ##STR1## where R is H or ##STR2## where R.sup.1 is an aliphatic, preferably an alkyl, having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, desirably from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and preferably 1 carbon atom, i.e., methyl, and R.sup.

    Abstract: Polycarbonate resin compositions are provided having improved light stability and comprising an alkylidene bis(benzotriazolyl phenol)having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl having from one to about eleven carbon atoms;R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; and arylalkyl having from seven to about eighteen carbon atoms; andX is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; halogen; alkyl having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; aryl alkyl having from seven to about eighteen carbon atoms; alkoxy having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; phenoxy; arylalkoxy having from seven to about eighteen carbon atoms; and phenyl.
