    Abstract: The viscosity of a solvent is modified by thickening the solvent with a silicone latex. A silicone latex having a plurality of crosslinked polysiloxane particles is first prepared by mixing the siloxane polymer, a surfactant, and water; emulsifying the mixture to a gel phase; diluting the emulsion with water; adding a cure package (i.e., a catalyst, a crosslinker, or both, or a self catalytic crosslinker); and then without removing the water from the latex and after the particles of siloxane polymer in the latex have been cured, mixing the latex and solvent to thicken the solvent, forming viscous liquids, gels, and pastes. Water in the latex thickened solvent composition can be stabilized by adding a silicone polyether during mixing of the latex and the solvent.

First, an .tbd.Si--H containing polysiloxane is grafted by long chain alkyl groups from the alpha-olefin onto the .tbd.Si--H containing polysiloxane, and then crosslinked with double bonds in the alpha, omega-diene, in the presence of the low molecular weight silicone oil. The formed silicone gel can then be crumbled into a silicone powder using mechanical force. When additional amounts of the low molecular weight silicone oil are added to the gel, and the silicone oil and the gel are subjected to shear force, a silicone paste can be formed.

    Abstract: A resin composition for coating of the present invention includes a polyester containing an acid component and a polyol component, wherein the polyester is soluble or dispersible in a solvent consisting essentially of at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of cyclohexanone and isophorone; the polyester has a metal sulfonate group in an amount in the range of 0.1 to 5 mol % based on the total moles of the acid component or the polyol component and is slightly soluble in an organic solvent in the case where the content of the metal sulfonate group is 0%; and a specific gravity of the polyester at 30.degree. C. is in the range of 1.265 to 1.340.

One or more layers are dipped in sequential steps in thicknesses of 0.5 to 1.5 mils per layer, with complete integral film formation and substantially complete freedom from porosity and pin holes. Cross-linkable polyurethanes may be cured after fully molded.

The lacquer composition comprises a film-forming polymer dispersion along with a water miscible organic solvent, such as an alcohol, present in an amount which does not exceed thirty percent by weight. A pigment or dye is incorporated in the composition to provide a color hue or tone to the composition but where the composition still remains transparent or translucent. The composition may also include a coalescing agent, such as an ester alcohol, to provide the needed film resiliency and elongation and to lower film forming temperature. The composition may also optionally include a surfactant. In addition, the composition may optionally include a wetting agent and a thickener and plasticizer.

The solvent is then evaporated to thereby deposit a preceramic coating on the substrate. The preceramic coating is then ceramified by heating the to a temperature of between about 40.degree. C. and about 1000.degree. C. This coating, moreover, may be covered by additional passivation and barrier coatings.
