Abstract: A resin composition is provided which is made flame retardant using a non-halogen flame retardancy-imparting component, and the resin composition containing HIPS as a resin component is particularly provided. A salt of succinic acid and/or a salt of malic acid or a metal sulfide is used as the flame retardancy-imparting component and this component is kneaded with the resin component such as a polystyrene polymer to produce the resin composition. Further, the resin composition is injection-molded into exterior bodies of home electric appliances. The use of molybdenum disulfide, disodium succinate or dipotassium succinate, as the flame retardancy-imparting component makes it possible to provide the resin composition of excellent flame retardancy as a non-halogen material.

  • Patent number: 7303798
Abstract: High radiopacity is achieved in a polymeric marker by combining a polymeric resin, a powdered radiopaque agent having uniformly shaped particles of a specific particle size distribution and a wetting agent. The method to produce the marker calls for the blending and pelletization of these materials followed by extrusion onto support beading. The resulting supported tubing is subsequently cut to length with the beading still in place. After ejection of the beading remnant the marker is slipped into place on the device to be marked and attached by melt bonding. Marking of a guidewire allows lesions to be measured while the marking of balloon catheters allow the balloon to be properly positioned relative to a lesion.

  • Patent number: 7262240
Abstract: A paint system and process are disclosed for hardfacing metal surfaces. In one embodiment of the process, a paint including a dispersion of hard particles is first applied as a coating to a surface. Next, a paint including a dispersion of a braze alloy is applied over the layer of hard particles. The surface is then heated to cause the braze alloy to melt and infiltrate into the hard particles thereby bonding them to the metallic surface. In another embodiment, a first layer of adhesive is applied, and a hardfacing powder is applied onto the adhesive. Then a second layer if adhesive is applied, and a braze alloy powder is applied onto the second adhesive. Then the material is heated as in the first embodiment. In another embodiment, paint containing hard particles is coated onto the substrate, and an acid-containing cross-linked copolymer in the paint is then neutralized to increase the viscosity of the paint to prevent running.

Abstract: In the invention, a polyester resin comprising dicarboxylic acid constitutional units and diol constitutional units wherein 5 to 60 mol % of the diol constitutional units has a cyclic acetal skeleton is produced by a process comprising an oligomerization step and a polymerization step. In the oligomerization step, an ester having a limited acid value is transesterified with a diol having a cyclic acetal skeleton in the presence of a basic compound to obtain an oligomer. The oligomer is then polymerized in the subsequent polymerization step to increase the molecular weight.
