Patent number: 4385149Abstract: An offset printing ink composition is provided which contains a vehicle resin (III) prepared by reacting 5 to 100 parts by weight of a phenolic resin (component D) with 100 parts by weight of a modified resin (II) modified with an acid, said phenolic resin (component D) being prepared by the condensation of a phenol including an alkyl substituent group having 4 to 9 carbon atoms with formalin, said modified resin (II) modified with an acid being prepared by reacting 1 to 15 parts by weight of a component C selected from the group consisting of unsaturated carboxylic acids, unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydrides and mixtures thereof with 100 parts by weight of a resin (I) obtained by copolymerizing 5 to 50 parts by weight of a component B selected from the group consisting of drying oils, fatty acids and mixtures thereof with 100 parts by weight of a five-member cyclic compound (component A) having a conjugated double bond or bonds and a Diels-Alder addition product thereof, such as cyclopentadiene or dicyclopType: GrantFiled: August 6, 1981Date of Patent: May 24, 1983Assignee: Nippon Oil Company, LimitedInventors: Shozo Tsuchiya, Makoto Sasaki, Hideo Hayashi

Patent number: 4374177Abstract: Glass fibers reinforced polymeric polymers can be produced with high strength properties such as tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength by using sized glass fiber strands of the present invention. The sized glass fiber strands have a residue of an aqueous sizing composition comprising: aqueous dispersible, emulsifiable, or solubilizable polyurethane polymer, polyepoxide polymer, polyethylene-containing polymer, and wax, where the weight ratio of the polyethylene containing polymer to the wax is in the range of about 25 to 1 to about 1 to 25, and one or more amino silane coupling agents. In addition to the amino silane coupling agent, the sizing composition may have an epoxy silane coupling agent and/or a lubricant modified silane coupling agent. The wax can be deleted from the composition, when the polyethylene-containing polymer has limited branching. The sized glass fiber strands can be produced by conventional forming process or by a wet chopped glass fiber forming process.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1981Date of Patent: February 15, 1983Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.Inventors: Ed C. Hsu, L. Dow Moore, Chester S. Temple

Patent number: 4371634Abstract: A microcapsule-containing wax composition, which comprises (a) microcapsules of from 2 to 10 .mu.m diameter, (b) waxes and (c) dispersants, with or without pigments, fillers, volatile constituents and other agents conventionally present in wax compositions for the hot carbon process. The wall material of the microcapsules is a cross-linked urea-melamine condensate. The wax compositions may be applied over all or part of the surface of a base material, and give deeply colored copies with color-forming (CF) layers.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1981Date of Patent: February 1, 1983Assignee: BASF AktiengesellschaftInventors: Dietrich Hoffman, Wolfgang Sliwka

Patent number: 4368283Abstract: Reinforced resin compositions exhibiting excellent heat resistance and appearance, and containing by weight: (a) at least 30% of a polyethylene terephthalate-type resin, (b) 5 to 60% glass fiber, (c) 0.03 to 5% of one or more salts of organic carboxylic acids with metals of the Groups Ia and IIa of the Periodic Table, and (d) 0.1 to 20% of a sorbitan derivative are disclosed. Optionally liquid or solid paraffin or polyethylene wax is incorporated in an amount of 0.3 to 5% based on the total composition may be incorporated if a white article is desired.Molded articles prepared from these compositions, high in heat resistance and uniform appearance, even if the thickness of the molded article is small or uneven or the molding operation is carried out at a relatively low mold temperature, are also disclosed. Molding temperature dependence and thickness dependence on the heat distortion temperature of the molded article are remarkably improved as well.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1981Date of Patent: January 11, 1983Assignee: Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kazuo Kishida, Isao Sasaki, Hiroshi Mori
