  • Patent number: 5968996
Abstract: A silicone release composition having a non-gloss, i.e., matte finished, surface and a linerless label incorporating the silicone release composition. The release composition includes a crosslinked silicone-based polymer having microparticles of a polymeric wax at least partially embedded therein. The polymeric wax may be polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene or other polyolefin, or a hydrocarbon-based wax. The microparticles of polymeric wax cause incidental light to scatter upon reflection, giving the release composition surface matte appearance. This makes the release composition particularly useful for linerless labels on which bar coded information will be printed. Also, a method for producing linerless label stock. The method includes mixing an uncured silicone material with microparticles of a polymeric wax. The mixture is coated onto a substrate and exposed to UV radiation to cure or crosslink the silicone around the microparticles of wax.

  • Patent number: 5849832
Abstract: This invention relates generally to sealants for insulating glass units. More specifically, this invention is a one-component, hot applied, chemically curing sealant for edge sealing insulating glass units. The sealant contains a thermoplastic hot melt resin blended with an atmospheric curing resin. The hot melt resin functions as the meltable component during the initial application, and supplies strength immediately upon cooling. The polymer phase then begins to cure by reaction with atmospheric oxygen and/or moisture to form a cross-linked thermoset elastomer which is temperature resistant. At this point, the hot melt resin functions as an inert plasticizer within the cured polymer phase. The sealant of the present invention may additionally include plasticizers, fillers, pigments, catalysts and the like.

  • Patent number: 5373049
Abstract: Hot-melt adhesives, useful for both glue-pot and glue-gun applications, are formulated so that they can be applied at temperatures no higher than 280.degree. F. and preferably at temperatures of at most 250.degree. F. The adhesive compositions have a heat resistance of at least 125.degree. F. and are readily shaped into glue sticks for use in glue guns, The adhesive for the hot-melt adhesive compositions is suitably compounded with tackifying resin and/or wax.
