Abstract: The present invention is to provide a metal oxide organopolysiloxane hybrid powder, wherein a silicon atom of organopolysiloxane is bonded by covalent bond with a metal atom through an oxygen atom and complicated homogeneously. Titanium and/or zirconium is desirably used as the above mentioned metal atom. Especially, a porous titanium oxide organopolysiloxane hybrid powder whose specific surface area is larger than 50 m2/g is desirably used. Said hybrid powder can be produced by generating sol by hydrolysis of metal alkoxide, adding reactive organopolysiloxane to said sol to generate hybrid sol solution, then precipitating it. The method to produce titanium oxide.silica composite by the heat treatment of porous titanium oxide.organopolysiloxane hybrid powder can be also mentioned. By making hybrid, the optical properties of metal oxide powder can be controlled and dispersing ability, dispersing stability, water repellency and hard feeling can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6479576
Abstract: Described is a multi-layer film comprising, (a) at least one first layer of polyamide; (b) at least one second layer of polyethylene or an ethylene-copolymerizate containing fine-particulate titanium dioxide, a majority of the titanium dioxide particles having a diameter of between 5 and 30 nm; (c) optionally at least one EVOH-containing third layer; and (d) optionally at least one bonding layer. The multi-layer film has a value of from 5 to 200, as determined from the summation of the product of the following equation (I) for all second layers of the multi-layer film, (A×B)  Equation (I) Equation (I) is calculated for each second layer, A is the thickness of the second layer in micrometers, and B is the weight percent of titanium dioxide present in the second layer, based on the total weight of the second layer. Also described is the use of the film according to the present invention as a packaging material for foodstuffs.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved titanium dioxide pigment that incorporate a dense silica coating and its process for manufacture. The pigment is preferably produced from a titania base from the chloride process in which the manufacturing process comprises the following steps in the order stated: (a) partial or substantial removal of salt from the oxidizer discharge; (b) addition of a dispersant; (c) milling to produce a highly dispersed, highly deagglomerated slurry, followed by dense silica surface treatment. Pigments prepared using the inventive process exhibit optics equivalent to high gloss, high opacity pigments and maintain the durability of the more conventional dense silica treated pigments.

Abstract: In a friction material including a fibrous reinforcement, a friction modifier and a binder, no whisker-like potassium titanate fiber is contained, but powdery or flaky potassium titanate with an aspect ratio of not higher than 3 is mixed as a friction component. The diameter of the powdery or flaky potassium titanate is preferably in a range of from 0.05 &mgr;m to 150 &mgr;m. In addition, the powdery or flaky potassium titanate is preferably subjected to surface treatment with a silane coupling agent, phenolic resin, or the like. Further, fibrous potassium titanate may be mixed at a volume ratio of not higher than 30% with respect to the powdery or flaky potassium titanate. The fibrous potassium titanate is a by-product when the powdery or flaky potassium titanate is produced and which has a length of not longer than 5 &mgr;m or a diameter of not smaller than 3 &mgr;m.

  • Publication number: 20020123558
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a polyester carboxylate polymeric pigment dispersant to be used as a grind resin to incorporate inorganic pigment into a pigment dispersion for a coating composition. The polymeric pigment dispersant is the reaction product of pentaerythritol, hexahydrophthalic anhydride, glycidylneodecanoate, and dimethylethanolamine. The present invention is also directed to a method of preparing the polymeric pigment dispersant. In this method, the pentaerythritol and the hexahydrophthalic anhydride are polymerized to form an intermediate compound. Next, an epoxy group of the glycidylneodecanoate reacts with the intermediate compound, and then the dimethylethanolamine neutralizes the intermediate compound to form the completed polymeric pigment dispersant. The polymeric pigment dispersant is utilized for efficient wetting and grinding of the pigment.
