Patent number: 5834547Abstract: A molding compound composition of the present invention comprises a resin composition, for example, unsaturated polyester, a succinic acid derivative, and a thickening agent such as magnesium oxide, and the moisture content thereof is adjusted in a range of from 0.1 to 0.45 percent by weight. A molding compound comprises the molding compound composition and reinforced fibers such as glass fibers, and the moisture content thereof is adjusted to be in a range of from 0.1 percent to 0.4 percent by weight. As shown in FIG. 1, the molding compound composition has excellent viscosity characteristics since the initial thickening action due to the thickering agent is restrained. Although the viscosity after thickened is lower than that of a conventional composition, the stickiness of the surface of the molding compound composition is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1997Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Nippon Shokubai Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kouji Takabatake, Katsura Hayashi, Yoshinori Utikoshi

Patent number: 5820982Abstract: Water-soluble or water-dispersible and curable polyester resins are suitable as binders in various applications. The resins are reaction products of polyterephthalate, sulfoisophthalates, polyols, polyacids, end acids and crosslinker agents. Waste terephthalates can be utilized. The preferred polyol is pentaerythritol. The resins can also be used as dye levelling agents when dyeing synthetic fibers.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1996Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Assignee: Seydel Companies, Inc.Inventor: Robert Keith Salsman

Patent number: 5780539Abstract: A polyester polymer containing micro glass fibers having an aspect ratio of greater than 1000, preferably from about 2000 to about 5000. Those micro glass fibers having these aspect ratios, preferably with mean fiber diameters of 1 microns or less, act as excellent nucleating agents to promote crystallization of the polymer melt during its cooling phase, improve the rheological behavior of the melt, reduce the crystalline half time during cooling phases, and are acceptable in polyester molded or thermoformed products which come into contact with food or beverage.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1997Date of Patent: July 14, 1998Assignee: Shell Oil CompanyInventor: Deborah Ann Snell Tung

Patent number: 5767223Abstract: A thermotropic liquid crystal polyester and a sealing material used for electric and electronic parts prepared from the thermotropic liquid crystal polyester, which polyester can be molded at low temperatures, while which polyester has heat resistance capable of well withstanding the process such as soldering. The thermotropic liquid crystal polyester is characterized in that it contains five kinds of specified repeating structural units in the respective ratios and it meets specific conditions of an intrinsic viscosity or the temperature of complete melting and storage elastic modulus.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1997Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Nippon Petrochemicals Company, LimitedInventors: Yoshikuni Yamada, Satoshi Murouchi, Toshitaka Kobayashi

Patent number: 5739176Abstract: A biodegradable polymer is provided for use in providing syringeable, in-situ forming, solid biodegradable implants for animals. The polymer is placed into the animal in liquid form and cures to form the implant in-situ. A thermoplastic system to form said implant comprises the steps of dissolving a non-reactive polymer in biocompatible solvent to form a liquid, placing the liquid within the animal, and allowing the solvent to dissipate to produce the implant. An alternative, thermosetting system comprises mixing together effective amounts of a liquid acrylic ester terminated, biodegradable prepolymer and a curing agent, placing the liquid mixture within an animal and allowing the prepolymer to cure to form the implant. Both systems provide a syringeable, solid biodegradable delivery system by the addition of an effective level of biologically active agent to the liquid before injection into the body.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1994Date of Patent: April 14, 1998Assignee: Atrix Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Richard L.
