Abstract: To economically produce a polyacetal copolymer excellent in properties including thermal stability by copolymerizing trioxane as the main monomer through simple steps, a polyacetal copolymer is produced by copolymerizing trioxane as the main monomer using a nonvolatile protonic acid catalyst as a polymerization catalyst until the conversion reaches at least 60% (based on all monomers), and then vaporizing unreacted monomers to separate, remove, and recover the same from the polymerization system to thereby reduce the residual monomer content of the polymerization system to 5% by weight or lower.

Abstract: A composition including polyalphaolefins that function as drag reducing agents and a process for the preparation of polyalphaolefins that function as drag reducing agents are disclosed. The process includes contacting alphaolefin monomers with catalyst particles in a polymerization mixture that includes a hydrocarbon solvent. The polymerization of the alphaolefin monomers produces polyalphaolefin drag reducing agents having an inherent viscosity of at least 10 dL/g. During polymerization of the polyalphaolcfin monomers, localized micelles compromising high molecular weight polyalphaolefin polymer are formed in micellar zones around the catalyst particles. The polymerization is conducted in the presence of a viscosity reducing agent that includes a substantially hydrophobic dispersant. The viscosity reducing agent is present in an amount sufficient to reduce the viscosity of the reaction mixture and disperse the localized micelles.

These TDI residues are reacted with a monofunctional alcohol in an amount such that the equivalent ratio of isocyanate groups to hydroxyl groups is from about 0.9:1 to about 1:0.9. The resultant composition may then be dissolved in a polyhydroxyl compound to produce a urethane-filled polyhydroxyl compound. • Patent number: 5770659
Abstract: Processes for making storage-stable epoxy-capped polyetherester resins are disclosed. In one process, a polyetherester resin is first made by inserting a carboxylic acid derivative into a polyether. Reacting the resin with a capping agent gives an intermediate resin with a reduced content of free carboxylic acid groups. Finally, the intermediate resin reacts with an epoxy compound in the presence of a finishing catalyst under conditions effective to give an epoxy-capped resin. The resins have low weight average molecular weights (less than about 8000), narrow molecular weight distributions (less than 6), and low viscosities, making them an excellent choice for low-VOC formulations. The finishing catalyst helps to minimize resin viscosity drift and improves shelf stability. Curing the resins with a vinyl monomer gives thermosets with an excellent balance of physical properties, including excellent water resistance.
