Abstract: Polyoxyalkylene polyether polyols are stabilized against oxidative degradation by incorporating therein a synergistic stabilizing composition containing (1) a mixture of butylated phenols consisting of 2-tertiary butyl phenol, 3,5-ditertiary butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate and 1,6-hexamethylene bis(3,5-ditertiary-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate) or tetrakis [methylene(3,5-ditertiary butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate)] methane (2) a p,p'-dialkyldiphenylamine such as p,p'-dioctyldiphenylamine and (3) a phenothiazine compound. Polyurethane foams are stabilized against scorching when the stabilized polyols are utilized in the foam preparation or the stabilizing composition is added with other reactants.
Abstract: A triazolidine-3,5-dione/formaldehyde/amine condensate is disclosed of the formula ##STR1## in which wherein the terms R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.5 are defined hereinafter in the specificationa process for the preparation of such condensate by reaction of a triazolidine-3,5-dione with formaldehyde and a suitable nitrogen compound and the use of the condensate as a flame-proofing agent for thermoplastics, especially polyamide and as an auxiliary for modifying polymeric substances.
Abstract: In a sulfur-curable conjugated diene rubber compound formulation containing a silica reinforcing filler and a mercaptoalkyltrialkoxysilane coupling agent, the improvement which comprises increasing time-to-scorch by employing benzothiazyl sulfenamide accelerators at levels of above at least 1.5 phr.

Abstract: Self-extinguishing polyolefin compositions consisting of:(1) from 52 to 96.55% by weight of at least one olefin polymer or copolymer;(2) from 3 to 30% by weight of a nitrogenous compound selected from amongst 1,3,5-triazines, urea and dicyandiamide;(3) from 0.3 to 3% by weight of a free-radical promoting compound selected from amongst 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-diphenylbutane and 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-diphenyl-hexane;(4) from 0.15 to 15% by weight of a compound of formula(R.sub.1 --S).sub.n R.sub.3 or (II) R.sub.2 .dbd.S, (I)wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are imidazol, uracyl, alkyleneurea or benzotriazol radicals, R.sub.3 =H, or a metal of Group II (A) or (B), or aluminum.
Abstract: Additives for rubber compositions, giving vulcanisates having improved retention of optimum physical properties, are compounds containing two or more groups of the formula --S--SO.sub.2 R linked by an organic bridging group, or polymers containing two or more groups of the formula --S--SO.sub.2 R attached to an organic polymer chain, where R represents (a) a radical OM where M is a monovalent metal, the equivalent of a multivalent metal, a monovalent ion derived by the addition of a proton to a nitrogenous base, or the equivalent of a multivalent ion derived by the addition of two or more protons to a nitrogenous base, or (b) an organic radical selected from aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic radicals, and radicals which are combinations of any two or more such radicals.

These compounds are useful stabilizers for organic material.

Abstract: A method for the uniform blending of additives into thermoplastic synthetic resins. A solution or finely divided dispersion of the additive is produced in a polymerizable cyclic ester of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents respectively hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1-18 carbon atoms,A represents a --O-- or --COO-- group,x and y represent integers from 1 to 15, andz represents 0 or 1.This solution or dispersion, optionally after polymerization of the cyclic ester, is admixed to the thermoplastic synthetic resin at the end of its manufacturing process or in a subsequent processing stage.
Abstract: Smoke suppressed rigid polyurethane foams are prepared from a reaction mixture comprising as the smoke suppressant additive a metal salt of a: dialkyl dithiocarbamate, a mercaptobenzothiazole, a 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, a mercaptotriazine, a hydroxy thiophenol or an aliphatic dimercapto compound of 2 to 10 carbons.
