Solid Polymer From Ethylenic Monomer Only, Said Polymer Formed In The Presence Of A Nonreactant Material Patents (Class 524/849)
  • Publication number: 20110081541
Abstract: A one part, storage stable polymerizable formulation is provided that includes an ethenically unsaturated polymerizable compound intermixed with a free radical polymerization initiator and an organic solvent. The organic solvent provides storage stability and upon evaporation of the solvent, the rate of polymerization of the compound accelerates independent of addition of a second part. The formulation includes at least 30 total weight percent solids upon cure. Optional additives to the formulation include at least one of a cure accelerator, a filler, a plasticizer, a colorant, and a cure inhibitor. A process for forming a polymerized coating on an article involves the application of this formulation to the substrate of an article and allowing sufficient time for the solvent to evaporate to form the polymerized coating on the article. The substrate of the article forms a corrosion barrier even without prior removal of a native corrosion layer on a surface of the substrate of the article.

  • Patent number: 7863362
Abstract: Polymer slurries of ultrahigh molecular weight polyalpha-olefins are made stable toward settling, separation and agglomeration by surface treatment with a combination of wax and optional relatively high-density particulates. The selection of the surface coating acts not only as an anti-blocking agent, or partitioning aid to keep the tacky polymer particles separated, but also provides the suspended polymer particle with a density that matches the carrier. This prevents separation of the slurry components over time. Such materials, ultimately used as pipeline additives to reduce the fluid drag and increase the volumetric throughput, can be stored and shipped for extended periods of time without degradation of the slurry quality. Upon injection into the pipeline, the polymer particle dissolves quickly, unhindered by the coating.

The linear polymers can be obtained from recycled shrink wrap film. Low densities of from 0.7 to less than 4 pcf can be achieved. Abstract: To provide a process for producing polymer particles which are spherical and have smooth surfaces and small contents of oil- and the solvent-soluble at the time of being compounded. Polymer particles are produced by adding 0.099 to 47 parts by mass of a crosslinking vinyl monomer to 100 parts by mass of a vinyl monomer (referred to hereinafter as the monomer) during polymerization reaction at a degree of monomer polymerization of 1 to 100% in order to polymerize the monomer in a solvent in the presence of a dispersant and a polymerization initiator to give polymer particles.

Abstract: A relatively small amount of a plasticizer having an SP value of at least 8.8 and a molecular weight of at most 550 is added to blend rubber of NBR-PVC in which NBR has an AN content of from 43 to 50% by weight. The fuel impermeability and the low-temperature flexibility of the resulting rubber composition are improved to be comparable to those of FKM, and the amount of the plasticizer and its reaction product to be released from the rubber composition in fuel is reduced. Adding a controlled amount of carbon black to the rubber composition makes the composition have favorable electroconductivity. The rubber composition is formed into hoses or electroconductive hoses of low fuel permeation.
