Patent number: 4478967Abstract: Surfactants which are blocked against surfactant action (identified herein as "photolabile blocked surfactants") by a photolabile protective or masking group but which, on exposure to actinic radiation, become unblocked are provided. Coating compositions in which surfactant is formed on irradiation are provided by blending the photolabile blocked surfactant with polymeric film-forming materials.Compositions containing the photolabile blocked surfactants are useful when employed as protective coatings on various substrates or as the adhesive in a pressure sensitive adhesive tape. Although initially well adhering to a substrate, such compositions may be readily removed from the substrate following exposure of the same to suitable radiation which unblocks the surfactant to permit it to regain its surfactant activity.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1980Date of Patent: October 23, 1984Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Gilbert L. Eian, John E. Trend

Patent number: 4468487Abstract: Disclosed is an impact-resistant polymer composition based on a copolymer of an unsaturated nitrile, a substantially saturated rubber and a chlorinated polyethylene. To maintain high impact resistance while retaining good processing properties, the polymer composition comprises:A. 40-95 parts by weight of at least one copolymer obtained by polymerizing a mixture of:(1) 10-90 weight % of one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of styrene and derivatives thereof, and(2) 90-10 weight % of one or more monomers selected from the group containing of acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile; andB. 5-60 parts by weight of a mixture comprising:(1) a substantially saturated rubber, and(2) chlorinated polyethylene having a chlorine content of from 32 to 45 weight %, a DSC crystallinity viscosity of at least 1.0, and wherein the weight ratio between rubber and chlorinated polyethylene is from 2:1 to 1:10.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1982Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Stamicarbon B.V.Inventors: Herman A. Patent number: 4464495Abstract: Improved vinyl halide polymer compositions containing smoke retarding amounts of copper oxalate and an amine molybdate form less smoke and have decreased flame spread on burning in the ASTM E-84 test when the compositions also contain about 5 to 15 weight parts of a Group IIA alkaline earth metal carbonate, titanium dioxide and alumunim hydrate. Improved rigid vinyl halide polymer compositions, substantially free of liquid ester type plasticizers, also containing styrene copolymer process modifiers, copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate and graft copolymers of methacrylates, butadiene, and styrenes (MBS) polymers, are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1982Date of Patent: August 7, 1984Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich CompanyInventor: Randall J. Brown

Patent number: 4446262Abstract: A photo-stabilized polymer composition comprising a polymer and as an ultraviolet absorber, at least one compound selected from specific cyclic imino esters having an aromatic nucleus, two carbon atoms of which forms a part of the imino ester ring, such as 2,2'-p-phenylene-bis(3,1-benzoxazin-4-one), or 2,8-dimethyl-4H,6H-benzo[1,2-d:5,4-d']bis-[1,3]-oxazine-4,6-dione, in the unreacted state. The ultraviolet absorber has excellent stability to heat and oxidation, and is useful, for example, for protecting from ultraviolet light a molded article of a polymer whose deterioration by ultraviolet light is required to be retarded or prevented or for protecting from ultraviolet light an object subject to deleterious effects under ultraviolet light.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Teijin LimitedInventors: Nobuya Okumura, Tetsuo Ichihashi, Shunichi Matsumura, Hiroo Inata
