Abstract: Acrylic or alkyd resin and polyester based covering or coating compositions are stabilized against the action of light and moisture by adding, possibly in the presence of conventional stabilizers and antioxidants, at least one compound containing at least one N-substituted, sterically hindered piperidino, morpholino or pyrrolidino group, and at least one silyl function, or a polymer structure with a polyorganosiloxane structure containing sterically hindered piperidino groups in the molecule.

Abstract: A surface-segregatable, melt-extrudable thermoplastic composition suitable for processing by melt extrusion to form a fiber or film having a differential, increasing concentration of an additive from the center of the fiber or film to the surface thereof, which differential, increasing concentration imparts to the surface of the fiber or film at least one desired characteristic which otherwise would not be present, which composition includes at least one thermoplastic polymer and at least one defined additive. During formation of the fiber or film, the additive rapidly segregates in a controllable manner toward the newly-formed surface of the fiber or film, thereby resulting in a controllable differential concentration of the polymeric material, which concentration increases with increasing distance from the center of the fiber or film to its surface. The weight ratio of the polymer to the additive is in the range of from about 1 to about 1,000.

Abstract: Provided are novel thermosetting coating compositions comprised of a an epoxy containing acrylic copolymer and 1,3- and/or 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid as crosslinking agents. Also provided are shaped or formed articles coated with the cured compositions. The compositions of the invention were found to provide coatings with markedly superior hardness.
Abstract: New and novel carboxylic acid hydrazides bearing a 2,2,6,6-tetra-alkyl-4-piperidine ring and new and novel polymeric compositions stabilized therewith are provided. The novel compounds which contain a light stabilizing group and a reactive hydrazide functionality in the same molecule are prepared by hydrazinolysis of the ester group of an intermediate carboxylic acid ester which contains the 2,2,6,6-tetralkylpiperidine moiety.

Abstract: A method is provided for the preparation of stable aqueous dispersions of non-solvated, un-neutralized, low amine, low acid number polymerized fatty acid polyamide resins. In the preferred method of this invention, a polymerized fatty acid polyamide resin which has been prepared so as to have a low acid and low amine number is liquified by heating the polyamide resin to a temperature where it is at or above its melting point. The liquified polymerized fatty acid polyamide resin is then blended with a predetermined amount of water which is heated to a temperature such that the resulting blend will have a temperature above the melting point of the polyamide resin. A surfactant which will promote the emulsification of the polyamide resin and water is included in the mixture.
Abstract: This invention relates to synthetic resin compositions comprising a mixed product of (a) a compound having at least one piperidyl group, (b) perchloric acid and (c) optionally an inorganic substance other than perchloric acid in an amount of 0.01-10 parts by weight based on a synthetic resin, for example, a halogen-containing resin.The compositions of this invention exhibit very excellent light resistance and heat resistance.
