Preferably, the grafted polymers are selected from the classes of polybutylene, polysaccharide, poly(ethyleneoxide/propyleneoxide), and polyamide polymers, and specific grafted polymers will depend on the specific enhancers used in a particular drug delivery system.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1997Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Assignee: National Starch and Chemical Investment Holding CorporationInventors: Deepak Hariharan, Roman Bradel, Rama Chandran, Pravin Kukkala

Patent number: 5916969Abstract: A water-responsive, thermoplastic article is formed from a composition of matter comprising a blend of polyolefins and poly(ethylene oxide). A water-dispersible article can be made from a blend having from about 1 weight percent to about 35 weight percent polyolefin and from about 99 weight percent to about 65 weight percent of poly(ethylene oxide). The water responsiveness of the article can be varied by modifying the polyolefin and increasing the content of polyolefin in the blend upwards to about 55 weight percent. The compositional blends can be made into a flushable barrier film for use in a disposable absorbent article, such as a diaper or feminine pad, or can be used to make a water responsive tampon tube. A method of making the article comprises blending together the polyolefin and poly(ethylene oxide) under melt conditions and forming the article.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1996Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Assignee: Kimberly-Clark CorporationInventors: James Hongxue Wang, David Michael Schertz

Patent number: 5912076Abstract: A thermoplastic film comprises a polyolefin, such as polyethylene, as a major constituent, poly(ethylene oxide) as a minor constituent and has a total of from about 0.1 weight percent to about 30 weight percent of monomer grafted to the polyolefin and the poly(ethylene oxide). The film exhibits an inverse phase morphology so that the poly(ethylene oxide) forms a continuous phase and the polyolefin forms a dispersed or discontinuous phase in the film. Desirably, the film can be used in disposable personal hygiene articles.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1997Date of Patent: June 15, 1999Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: James Hongxue Wang, David Michael Schertz

Patent number: 5840829Abstract: An adhesive is provided for bonding cyanate ester composite parts together which is also plateable with metal once chemically etched. The adhesive comprises a polymeric matrix and a filler of cyanate ester polymer. The polymeric matrix comprises at least one polyepoxide resin and a curing agent, while the cyanate ester polymer filler is present in the adhesive as a powder. In practice, the present adhesive is applied to the surface of cyanate ester composite articles to be bonded and is allowed to cure at room temperature. Thereafter, the surface of the assembly is chemically etched and then plated with metal. The present adhesive enable the complete coverage of the cyanate ester composite assembly with the plated metal, including the adhesive bondlines.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1997Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: Hughes Electronics CorporationInventors: Ralph D.
