  • Patent number: 4424312
Abstract: Two new optically active pyrrolidinephosphine monomers prepared by the reaction of 2(S), 4(S)-4-diphenylphosphino-2-diphenylphosphinomethylpyrrolidine and 2(R), 4(R)-4-diphenylphosphino-2-diphenylphosphinomethylpyrrolidine with acryloyl-chloride to give N-acryloyl-2(S), 4(S)-4-diphenylphosphino-2-diphenylphosphinomethylpyrrolidine (1) and N-acryloyl-2(R), 4(R)-4-diphenylphosphino-2-diphenylphosphinomethylpyrrolidine (2). Copolymerization of 1 and 2 with hydrophilic comonomers and a divinyl monomer provided crosslinked insoluble polymers containing about 3-5% of 1 or 2 that would swell in polar solvents. Exchange of rhodium(I) onto the polymer gave catalysts which were active for the asymmetric hydrogenation of N-acyl-amino acids in high optical yields, the phosphine derived from the enantiomer of the naturally occurring 4-hydroxyproline giving S-amino acids.

  • Patent number: 4419482
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing products containing polymer chains in which a linear prepolymer or polymer contains at least one free acid group at each chain and is reacted with an alkoxide of a metal having a valence of more than 2, such as zirconium, titanium or cerium, possibly in the presence of a non polar solvent, the alkoxide of the metal having a valence of more than 2 being used in such a quantity that the alkoxide functions are in excess with respect to the stoichiometric amount of the acid functions carried by said linear prepolymer or polymer, the reaction mixture being stirred in the presence of humidity until a product is obtained wherein the hydrogen atoms of the free acid end groups of the prepolymer or polymer are substituted by an atom of the metal (M) which is itself linked to another atom of said metal by M-O-M linkages. The invention relates also to the products containing a prepolymer or polymer .alpha.,.omega.

  • Patent number: 4419490
Abstract: The invention relates to polymeric soluble hydrogenation catalysts in which a metal of the eighth subgroup of the periodic system is bound by covalent and/or secondary valent bond to a soluble polymer. The hydrogenation catalysts are produced by reacting the selected polymer having a functional group with a metal, metal complex or metal salt wherein the metal is of the eighth subgroup of the periodic table, the reaction taking place in aqueous solution or in solution in an organic solvent. The catalysts of the invention can be used for the catalytic hydrogenation of organic compounds in solution.

  • Patent number: 4415710
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a preformed, reactive catalyst, which is the reaction product of a mixture containing an organo titanate, a polyol and a monohydric alcohol. These catalysts can be admixed with alkylene-alkyl acrylate copolymers to provide compositions which can be extruded about electrical wires and cables and cured, at improved cure rates, to crosslinked products characterized by improved physical properties.

  • Patent number: 4408012
Abstract: A novel chelate polymer having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a 2-thiazolyl or 2-benzothiazolyl group, is produced by reacting polymaleimide, formaldehyde, and m-aminobenzoic acid in the presence of a solvent, then coupling the resultant reaction product with a diazotized compound of 2-aminothiazole or 2-aminobenzothiazole. The novel polymers thus produced are useful as metal indicators or pH indicators.
