Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for producing an epoxidized polymer. The method comprises the steps of: (1) providing a polymer solution containing a polymer having a conjugated diene group; (2) providing a catalyst solution dissolved in the polymer solution, the catalyst solution containing a transition metal ion and a ligand for bonding to the transition metal ion, the transition metal ion being selected from the group consisting of Ti, Mn, V, Mo, W and any combination thereof; and (3) epoxidizing double bonds of the conjugated diene group to produce the epoxidized polymer by providing an epoxidizing agent dissolved in the polymer solution containing the catalyst solution, wherein the epoxidizing agent is meta-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (mCPBA) or analogs thereof.

Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide an oxygen-absorbing resin composition having a high oxygen absorbability and capable of absorbing oxygen for a long period of time. The present invention provides an oxygen-absorbing resin composition comprising polyolefin resin (A) obtained by polymerizing an olefin having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, resin (B) which is other than resin (A) and which acts as a trigger for the oxidation of resin (A), and transition metal catalyst (C), wherein resin (B) is dispersed in the matrix of resin (A) so that the oxidation reaction of matrix resin (A) is caused and thus oxygen is absorbed when the oxygen-absorbing resin composition is brought into contact with oxygen. This oxygen absorbing resin composition has a high oxygen absorbability and is advantageous in cost because oxygen is absorbed in resin (A).
Abstract: A polymer that combines high ionic conductivity with the structural properties required for Li electrode stability is useful as a solid phase electrolyte for high energy density, high cycle life batteries that do not suffer from failures due to side reactions and dendrite growth on the Li electrodes, and other potential applications. The polymer electrolyte includes a linear block copolymer having a conductive linear polymer block with a molecular weight of at least 5000 Daltons, a structural linear polymer block with an elastic modulus in excess of 1×107 Pa and an ionic conductivity of at least 1×10?5 Scm?1. The electrolyte is made under dry conditions to achieve the noted characteristics.

Abstract: An acid-functional polymer is reacted with a transition metal compound having an average particle size small enough to react with the polymer at a temperature below the glass transition temperature of the polymer, e.g., at room temperature, to produce cross-linked polymer. The process produces a liquid polymer product that dries to a cross-linked film without the required presence of volatile ligands. The SMA micelle complex can be produced by a method, wherein the metalloporphyrin derivative reacts with the styrene-maleic acid copolymer in the absence of a condensation agent under an alkaline condition, solubilized, adjusted to have a pH of 6-8, and subjected to a procedure for separating a polymer component to recover the micelle complex component for the polymeric pharmaceutical agent.
Abstract: A method of preparing tunable inorganic patterned nanofeatures by infiltration of a block copolymer scaffold having a plurality of self-assembled periodic polymer microdomains. The method may be used sequential infiltration synthesis (SIS), related to atomic layer deposition (ALD). The method includes selecting a metal precursor that is configured to selectively react with the copolymer unit defining the microdomain but is substantially non-reactive with another polymer unit of the copolymer. A tunable inorganic features is selectively formed on the microdomain to form a hybrid organic/inorganic composite material of the metal precursor and a co-reactant. The organic component may be optionally removed to obtain an inorganic feature s with patterned nanostructures defined by the configuration of the microdomain.

Abstract: Polymer supported metal complex catalysts and methods of their preparation and use are described. The polymer supported metal complex catalysts can be obtained via ligand exchange reactions between polymer ligands and a metal complex having catalytic activity. For example, a polymer supported rhodium (II) complex catalyst can be prepared via ligand exchange reaction between an insoluble polymer and a rhodium (II) carboxylate complex, wherein the insoluble polymer is prepared by a copolymerization reaction of (i) a styrene derivative with a substituted carboxylic acid, (ii) a styrene, and (iii) a linear alkane with both ends substituted by vinylbenzyloxy groups. The polymer supported catalysts can be used to catalyze asymmetric carbene reactions such as C—H insertion reactions and the like with high catalytic activity, chemical selectivity, diastereoselectivity, and enantioselectivity.

Abstract: The present invention concerns the use of RO. radicals, R being a hydrogen, an alkyl group having 2 to 15 carbons, an acyl group —COR? in which R? represents an alkyl group having 2 to 15 carbons, or an aroyl group —COAr in which Ar represents an aromatic group having 6 to 15 carbons, for the hydroxylation, alkoxylation or oxycarbonylation of polymer surfaces, the said polymers being different from polymers chosen from: polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and fluorocarbon polymers when R represents a hydrogen, or of polymer mixture surfaces, notably hydrophobic ones, the said polymers consisting in monomeric units of which at least 50% among these are aliphatic units, and the said RO. radicals being generated by electrochemical or photochemical means.
Abstract: The invention relates to an elastomeric product which contains a radical cross-linked rubber mixture, especially drive belts. For the production of elastomeric products, especially drive belts, having a long service life and producible in an environmentally friendly way, the rubber mixture contains (a) 0.1 to 50 phr of at least one carboxylic acid, which is at least ?,? unsaturated and ?,? unsaturated and preferably has at least one allylic hydrogen atom; and, (b) 0.1 to 50 phr of at least one salt-former as co-activator.

Abstract: A gas-barrier material in which carboxyl groups are ionically crosslinked in an amount corresponding to an acid value of at least 330 mgKOH/g of a resin that has the carboxyl groups in an amount corresponding to an acid value of not smaller than 580 mgKOH/g. The gas-barrier material exhibits excellent gas-barrier property, retort resistance and flexibility under highly humid conditions, enables the film to be cured at a low temperature in a short period of time, and can be favorably produced.
Abstract: A coated platelet that includes a robust polymer coating that has substantially uniform structures, a method for producing the coated platelet and a system that includes the coated platelet are described. The disclosed method involves immobilizing initiator molecules onto the surfaces of the platelet by using surface coupling groups and polymerization from initiating sites of the initiator anchored on the surface of the platelet. The disclosed method allows uniform growth of the polymer chains so as to produce robust coated platelets with a smooth coated surface. The disclosed system includes only the disclosed coated platelet and a solvent and eliminates the need to add polymer resins separate from the resins that are covalently attached to the platelet.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a particulate water-absorbent polymer particle having remarkably improved long-term color stability, without an adverse effect (such as a delay in polymerization) on synthesis of the particulate water-absorbent polymer. The method includes the steps of polymerizing a monomer aqueous solution (B) containing (i) at least one type of monomer (A) that is capable of forming a particulate water-absorbent polymer by polymerization, (ii) at least one type of crosslinking agent, (iii) at least one type of polymerization initiator and (iv) an organophosphorus compound in an amount of not less than 1 but not more than 100 ppm by mass with respect to the monomer (A) so as to form a hydrogel polymer, and drying the hydrogel polymer.

Abstract: Disclosed is a thermoplastic resin composition contains including a methacrylic resin having a ring structure in a main chain thereof and a glass transition temperature of 110° C. or higher, and at least one kind of metal compound selected from metal salts, metal complexes, and metal oxides, wherein a content of the metal compound in the composition is from 10 to 10,000 ppm in terms of metal atom based on a mass of the methacrylic resin, and a process for producing such a thermoplastic resin composition, the process including carrying out, when preparing a methacrylic resin having a ring structure in a main chain thereof and a glass transition temperature of 110° C. or higher, cyclization condensation reaction using a catalyst to form the ring structure; and then adding a deactivator of the catalyst.
