Polyvinyl Alcohol Patents (Class 525/56)
  • Patent number: 7378469
Abstract: The invention provides a method for preparing a 1-benzotriazolylcarbonate ester of a water-soluble and non-peptidic polymer by reacting a terminal hydroxyl group of a water-soluble and non-peptidic polymer with di(1-benzotriazolyl)carbonate in the presence of an amine base and an organic solvent. The polymer backbone can be poly(ethylene glycol). The 1-benzotriazolylcarbonate ester can then be reacted directly with a biologically active agent to form a biologically active polymer conjugate or reacted with an amino acid, such as lysine, to form an amino acid derivative.

Abstract: A method of improving ink stability. A block co-polymer is added to either an under-/overprinting vehicle or an ink vehicle. The polymer increases chemical interactions between the ink the print media. The under-/overprinting vehicle and the ink vehicle interact through electrostatic interactions while the polymer increases smearfastness by interacting with the print media through non-covalent interactions.

Abstract: Water-soluble films are prepared from polymer blends of polyvinyl alcohol and sulfonate polymers. The sulfo group can be acid form, SO3H, as well as salt form of potassium, sodium, ammonium, i.e. —SO3K, —SO3Na, and —SO3NH4. Conventional film-forming processes can be used to produce the films. Polymeric films prepared from the blend compositions have unique characteristics. Their water solubility rate can be controlled by varying the composition ratio of the polymer blend. Their water solubility rate is increased even at a temperature of 0° C. The water-soluble polymeric films can be used as packaging materials and immersion transfer printing film.

Abstract: This invention relates to a quick method for preparation of photorcactive polymers and immobilization of biomolecules onto these polymers. Particularly, this invention relates to a microwave-mediated rapid and efficient method for the preparation of photoreactive polymer having at least one photoactivable functional group capable of forming a covalent bond with the biomolecule in a photochemical reaction. Any matrix either organic or inorganic having a nucleophilic group preferably, amino, hydroxyl or thiol group can be modified by the invented method. Immobilization of biomolecules onto the photoreactive polymers was carried out by UV radiation. The method has applications for inmmobilization of bio-molecules irrespective of their functional groups in the fields of molecular biology, proteomics, genomics, diagnostics, chemical or biochemical industry and other related fields.

  • Patent number: 6780932
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparation of final graft polyols via a continuous process. In, addition, a final graft polyol formed by the process is disclosed. The process includes the steps of reacting a plurality of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and a reaction moderator with a macromer having induced unsaturation in the presence of a carrier polyol, a free radical polymerization initiator, and a first graft polyol. The process provides for the preparation of a final graft polyol having a solids level of from 30 to 70% in a continuous process. The final graft polyol produced by the process has a lower viscosity over a range of solids levels, a reduced amount of very large irregularly shaped particles, a reduced viscosity change in response to a change in reaction temperature compared to a typical graft polyol, a reduced tendency to foul the continuous reactor, and a broader particle size distribution compared to an identical graft polyol prepared by a semi-batch process.
