Patent number: 4680356Abstract: Essentially colorless, hydrophilic ligand-releasing polymers are prepared from ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers represented by the structure: ##STR1## wherein R' is hydrogen or lower alkyl, COUP is a photographic color coupling moiety, LINK is a coupling-off group which can be cleaved by an oxidized developer composition, and LIG is a ligand capable of complexing with metal ions, while joined to the polymer, to form a dye. These polymers also have recurring units which impart hydrophilicity to the polymer. These polymers form metal complex dyes in unexposed areas of photographic elements only, while the ligand is cleaved from the polymer in the exposed areas and washed out of the element.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1985Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: William N. Patent number: 4634722Abstract: Copolymers having improved machining and water resistant properties are produced using a monomer containing an adduct protecting group, particularly an alkyl boronic acid adduct, of glyceryl acrylate or glyceryl methacrylate, in combination with an alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, and optionally a glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate. After machining and shaping, the adduct is removed to provide a hydrogel useful as a contact lens material.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1983Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Assignee: Syntex (U.S.A.) Inc.Inventor: Paul M. Gallop
