Abstract: Crosslinked polyacrylamides containing silyl groups are disclosed which are prepared in a simple and economical manner by polymerizing silylated acrylic acid amides in the presence of a crosslinking agent such as 1,4-butanediol-diacrylate. The resultant crosslinked silylated polyacrylamides are insoluble in customary solvents and are useful for the transfer of silyl groups to compounds which contain at least one mobile hydrogen atom. They may be employed, e.g., in gas chromatography, mass spectroscopy and chemical syntheses (for instance for the introduction of protective silyl groups).
Abstract: Ethylenically unsaturated blocked aromatic diisocyanates are prepared which readily polymerize to form homopolymers and interpolymers with copolymerizable vinylidene monomers. Polymers can be prepared via emulsion polymerization, and exhibit excellent stability to hydrolysis when stored in latex form. The polymers cure at temperatures as low as 80.degree. C., and under acidic, neutral, or basic pH conditions. Homopolymers and interpolymers of the defined diisocyanates are useful as adhesives, and interpolymers of the ethylenically unsaturated blocked aromatic diisocyanates with acrylate monomers are particularly useful as binders for nonwoven fibers.

Abstract: A method is provided for the production of homogeneous copolymers from monomers having differing reaction rates; in particular copolymers of acrylonitrile or of vinylidene chloride are disclosed. The monomers are fed to the reaction mixture at a rate sufficient to maintain a constant monomer ratio in the reaction mixture throughout the course of the reaction, the rate of addition being determined by the rate of evolution of heat as measured by the rate that a cooling system removes heat evolved by the reaction. An injection-mouldable copolymer consisting essentially of acrylonitrile units and uniformly distributed units of styrene or .alpha.-methyl styrene may be produced in this way. Films of the copolymer can be oriented by stretching at 90.degree.-140.degree. C. Its softening point may be increased by copolymerizing a minor amount of N-aryl maleimide.
Abstract: A polyvinyl chloride extender resin having an average particle size of between about 5 microns and about 50 microns can be formed by using conventional suspension polymerization procedures if a prehomogenized solution comprising an effective amount of polyallyl compound and a low molecular weight propylene polymer are incorporated in the suspension polymerization medium to control the rheological properties of the resin.
Abstract: This invention deals with new unsaturated esteramides of .alpha.,.beta. -unsaturated polycarboxylic acids derived from halogenated alcohols of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a divalent hydrocarbon moiety having at least one and no more than 10 carbon atoms, X is a member selected from the class of bromine and chlorine, and R' is a member selected from the class of hydrogen, X and a monovalent hydrocarbon containing at least one and no more than 20 carbon atoms. Typical esteramides are the maleates, fumarates, itaconates and citraconates. These monomers possess fire-retardant properties and are useful for the synthesis of polymers and copolymers.
Abstract: Certain elastomers may be adhered to a large number of solid surfaces by incorporating into such elastomers hexahydro-s-triazines having the formula: ##EQU1## R is either the radical CH.sub.2 =CH-- or CH.sub.2 =C(CH.sub.3).
