Abstract: A thermostable heterocyclic polymer constituted by monomer units of the general formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 denote an organic radical having from 2 to 1000 carbon atoms;a radical having 2 to 1000 carbon atoms, containing:1 to 1000 atoms of Si,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of F,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of Cl,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of Br,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of N,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of S,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of P,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of B,and/or 1 to 1000 atoms of O,R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 being either the same or different;R.sup.3 .dbd.NH, CH.sub.2 ;R.sup.4 is a radical which, with R.sup.3 .dbd.NH, may be ##STR2## while with R.sup.3 .dbd.CH.sub.

Abstract: Crosslinked random acrylate-ureadiacetaoacetamide-diacetoacetamide copolymers are disclosed. These copolymers are prepared by the reaction of at least one polyfunctional acrylate with at least one ureadiacetoacetamide and at least one diacetoacetamide in the presence of a catalyst capable of promoting the reaction between the polyfunctional acrylate, the ureadiacetoacetamide, and the diacetoacetamide. In a preferred embodiment, the copolymers are employed to produce wear layer compositions for surface coverings.
Abstract: A detergent composition is provided which comprises at least 5 percent by weight of a surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic, nonionic, zwitterionic, ampholytic and amphoteric surfactants; and at least 1 weight percent of a copolymer having the following general formula ##STR1## where Y is one or more comonomers selected from the group consisting of olefins and aldehydes having from 1 to about 3 carbon atoms; n averages at least 2; p is at least 1; and M is selected from the group consisting of alkali metal, ammonium and alkanol ammonium groups having 1 to about 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are individually any chemically stable group which stabilize the polymer against rapid depolymerization in alkaline solution. The copolymers are stable under laundry use conditions, but depolymerize in acid media, making the fragments more readily biodegradable in waste streams.
Abstract: Acetylene end-capped polyimide oligomers are prepared by a process including the following sequential steps:1. Preparing an alkanol or ether solution containing substantially 1 molar equivalent of a dialkyl ester of an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid,2. Adding substantially 0.5 to 0.8 molar equivalent of an aromatic diamine to the solution of (1) to form a reaction product between the diacid and the diamine,3. Adding an aminoarylacetylene to the solution of (2) in a quantity sufficient to provide amine groups equivalent to the free carboxylic acid groups present in the product of (2).4. Heating the solution of (3) to vaporize the solvent therefrom, and5. Heating the product of (4) to convert the carboxylic acid groups, the ester groups, and the amino groups thereof to imide groups.The temperature in steps (2) and (3) is maintained below about 50.degree. C. The temperature in steps (4) and (5) is maintained below about 210.degree. C.

Soluble amide-imide polymers having the general formula: ##STR1## where n is an integer greater than 10 and preferably greater than 20.
Abstract: Aromatic polyimides with anhydride end groups are chain-extended (molecular weight increased) by reacting them with aromatic diamines or diamine terminated imide oligomers. The reaction can either be at a temperature above the melting point of the reactants or in solvents for the reactants. These polyimides can be shaped and formed prior to chain-extending.
Abstract: New crosslinkable polymers, in particular polymerization products of 5-maleimidyl-isophthalic acid derivatives and 5-(nadic acid)-isophthalic acid derivatives and vinyl monomers and polycondensation products of the said isophthalic acid derivatives and diamines, diols or aminoalcohols and optionally a di-, tri- or tetra-carboxylic acid derivative are described. These polymers are distinguished by good processability and good solubility in customary organic solvents and are suitable for the manufacture of various industrial products, such as thin films, thick films and compression mouldings. spThis is a Divisional of application Ser. Abstract: Copolymers of keto dicarboxylates are provided which have the following general formula ##STR1## WHERE Y is one or more comonomers; n averages at least 2; p is at least 1; and M is selected from the group consisting of alkali metal, ammonium, alkyl groups having 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, and alkanol amine groups having 1 to about 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain. Such copolymers are useful as detergent builders to replace sodium tripolyphosphate (STP) in detergent formulations. The copolymers are stable under laundry use conditions, but depolymerize in acid media, making the fragments more readily biodegradable in waste streams.
Abstract: A method of producing poly-p-phenyleneterephthalamide or its copolymers residing in that p-phenylenediamine or p-phenylenediamine and an aromatic diamine of the diphenyl series is/are disclosed in amide-salt solvents consisting of linear or cyclic N-alkyl-substituted amides of acids and of salts of alkaline or alkaline-earth metals soluble in said amides in amounts of 1-3 moles per mole of diamines; terephthalic acid dichloride or a mixture of terephthalic acid dichloride and aromatic acid dichloride of the diphenyl series are introduced into the solutions obtained at 0.degree.-20.degree. C. in amounts equimolar to those of the diamines, a reaction mixture being thus formed; tertiary amines are introduced into said reaction mixture in amounts 2-6 moles per mole of the initial diamines; the reaction mixture is stirred for 3-70 minutes and the end product is separated from the mass obtained.
