Abstract: A composition that includes isocyanate group containing compounds that include on average i) a NCO functionality less than or equal to 3.5; and ii) from 1.5 to 8 percent by weight, based on the isocyanate containing compound, of allophanate groups; and which is substantially free of uretdione groups. The composition can be used in two component elastomeric coating compositions that include a component A the above-described composition and a component B that includes a compound containing one or more functional groups that are reactive with isocyanate groups. The elastomeric coating compositions can be used to coat substrates.

The first isocyanate component comprises monomeric isocyanates reactive with the monohydric isocyanate-reactive component. The prepolymer component also has an excess of NCO functional groups, and comprises the reaction product of a polyol component and an excess of a second isocyanate component. The prepolymer system can be used to prepare foams via reaction with water. The foams have low density and have excellent adhesion and sound dampening properties for use in cavities of automobile bodies.

Abstract: This invention relates to flexible cycloaliphatic diisocyanate trimers and a process for the preparation of these. These flexible products are allophanate-modified, partially trimerized cycloaliphatic diisocyanates and are characterized by a low Tg. More specifically, the Tg of the resultant product ranges from about ?30° C. to about 40° C., after the excess monomer has been removed from the product.

Abstract: The present invention is a transparent thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) comprising structural units of: a.) a diisocyanate; b.1) a polyester diol and b.2) a specific polyether diol and c.) a chain extender. Abstract: A medical adhesive comprises a hydrophilic urethane prepolymer (UP) obtained by reacting a fluorine-containing nonaromatic polyisocyanate component (A) and a polyol component (B) having a hydrophilic polyol (B1), and a phenolic radical scavenger (PRS). The content of (PRS) is preferably 0.01 to 3% by weight based on the weight of (UP). The content of oxyethylene groups in (B) is preferably 30 to 100% by weight based on the weight of the oxyalkylene groups in (B). Preferably, (B) is a mixture of a random copolymer obtained by addition of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide to diols and polypropylene glycol. The content of isocyanate groups in the medical adhesive is 1 to 10% by weight based on the weight of (UP). The medical adhesive is suitable for bonding body tissues, such as lung, artery and heart in particular.

Abstract: The invention relates to supramolecular ionomers. i.e. polymers having quadruple hydrogen bonding units (4H-units) and ionic groups or ionogenic groups within their structure. The supramolecular ionomers can be dispersed or solubilized in water at high solids contents while maintaining low viscosities, facilitating easy use and processing of the resulting aqueous formulations. The aqueous supramolecular ionomer compositions have excellent film-forming properties. Moreover, the polymer materials have good mechanical properties after drying, as they are not tacky, show high elasticity and low or no creep.

Abstract: A method of forming thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) into an optical lens. Suitable TPUs contain urethane (—NHCOO—) repeating units that are present in at least 23% by weight. This range of urethane weights is an indicator of a flexural modulus above 1,400 MPa. The TPUs have refractive indices above 1.54 and Abbe numbers above 27. They have glass transition temperatures above about 100 degrees C. The selected TPU can be injection molded to form ophthalmic lenses, that are well suited for use in rimless spectacles. The lenses are highly solvent resistant, while at the same time being readily tintable. The lenses made according the invention meet FDA 21 CFR 801.41 Impact Requirement, and ANSI Z87.1 high velocity impact (HVI) standard.

Abstract: A flushable article such as a wipe that includes a substrate that includes fibers, and a dried binder composition in contact with the fibers, the article (e.g., wipe) being insoluble in water having a pH of no greater than 6, and disintegrating in water having a pH of at least 6.5.
