  • Patent number: 5426923
Abstract: An agricultural baler for making cylindrical bales of crop material having a sledge assembly moveable between bale starting and full bale positions. The sledge assembly includes a plurality of rollers which cooperate with an apron to define a bale forming chamber. A dispensing mechanism is carried on the sledge assembly for dispensing sheet material, such as net or the like, into the bale forming chamber whereupon it is wrapped circumferentially around a cylindrical bale of crop material in the bale forming chamber. A net supply assembly is associated with the dispensing mechanism to provide net for feeding into the bale chamber via the dispensing mechanism. Included in the net supply assembly is a net brake for restraining the net during various parts of the wrapping process, e.g, cutting. The brake is operated in cooperation with a counter arrangement that includes an idler roll in continuous contact with the surface of the net supply roll.

  • Patent number: 5195301
Abstract: A method and apparatus for wrapping the sides and covering the top of a load. The apparatus comprises of a reel of wrapping film and a load support that can be rotated relative to each other about an axis that is coincident with the vertical axis of the load to thereby wrap the sides of the load. The film reel and the load support are further pivotable relative to each other about a second axis that is orthogonal to the load axis as well as slidable relative to each other along this second axis to thereby cover the top face of the load.

  • Patent number: 5189866
Abstract: A mechanical agricultural device mounted on the rear three-point lift of an agricultural tractor, and receiving operational power from the same. Unit was devised to assist in the preservation of large hay bales, used as livestock feed the world over. After baling, wrapping is an on field operation that involves the penetration of center of bale with main center spear of the bale wrap machine. Bale and machine are raised at a height to prevent interference with ground area when rotated. An electrical remote control activates a series of mechanisms, hydraulic and electrical, that results in bale being wrapped in weather proof film of plastic. The wrap cycle, which starts after a remote start switch is activated, is completed without any manual assistance. Bales are protected and are then ready to be stored in an outdoor environment until it is ready to be consumed.

Abstract: A large round baler is equipped with a wrapping mechanism for applying a web of plastic material to a bale located in the bale-forming chamber. The wrapping mechanism includes a housing including a cover mounted to the rear of the discharge gate of the baler for pivoting vertically, about a first horizontal transverse axis at an upper forward location of the cover, between a lowered closed position, wherein it encloses a roll of wrap material resting on a pair of roll end supports, and a raised position permitting access to the roll end supports. A pair of gas springs are coupled between opposite side walls of the cover and spaced apart crank arms of a load member which is vertically pivotally supported from the gate for swinging about a second horizontal transverse axis located slightly below and rearwardly of the first axis.

Abstract: Stretch wrapping packaging material on a load includes introducing stretch wrap packaging material onto V shaped tips of projecting portions of a first grooved roller so that the packaging material spans the nonprojecting portions of the first grooved roller. The web of packaging material and the first grooved roller are transported in the direction generally parallel to the grooves. The web of packaging material spanning the nonprojecting portions of the first grooved roller is impinged with V shaped tips of projecting portions of a second grooved roller. • Patent number: 5155970
Abstract: A method and apparatus for stretch wrapping a load with a film web having a tacky surface and a non-tacky surface. The film web is wrapped around the load in a forward direction with the tacky surface facing away from the load. The orientation of the film web is reversed by inserting a metal rod in the path of the film web and reversing the wrapping direction. The film web wraps around the metal rod, thereby causing the film web to fold back on itself. The film web is wrapped around the load in the reverse direction to cover the film web which was wrapped in the forward direction, with the tacky side facing the film web which was wrapped in the forward direction.

Abstract: A large round baler includes mechanism for optionally wrapping a bale with either twine or a surface wrap material. A wrap control mechanism includes means whereby the wrapping process is initiated in response to a bale reaching a desired diameter within the bale chamber. Various microswitches are strategically mounted so as to be operated by various components of the twine and surface wrap mechanisms and the control mechanism therefor. These switches are integrated into an indicator circuit including indicator devices including various colored lights and a buzzer all of which are caused to operate in various modes to apprise an operator of when the wrapping process is beginning, whether or not twine or surface wrap material is present, when wrapping is complete and when the surface wrap material has been severed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for wrapping the top and sides of a load. A web dispenser dispenses and stretches web on the direction in which it is dispensed. The load is rotated relative to the web dispenser as web is wrapped onto the load. The web dispenser is positioned in an orientation generally parallel to the sides of the load for wrapping the sides of the load, and is changed to an orientation generally parallel to the top of the load for covering the top of the load. A web supply may change orientation along with the web dispenser or may be fixed relative to the web dispenser in an orientation generally parallel to the sides of the load. • Patent number: 5131209
Abstract: A vertical foam wrapping machine can rewrap rolls of carbonless paper having damaged packaging in satellite locations without the need for returning the rolls of paper to the manufacturing facility for rewrapping. The machine includes a lift device with a vertically adjustable arm. Foam wrap and stretch film are positioned on this arm and are fed to the roll of carbonless paper resting on a turntable in front of the lift device. The turntable has a rigid platform upon which the paper sits. This platform is nonmovable relative to the turntable and has a diameter less than the diameter of the roll paper. In this manner, a lower section of the roll of paper adjacent the lower edge remains exposed. As the turntable rotates, foam wrap and stretch film are wrapped around the roll of paper. Due to the exposure of the lower edge, the foam wrap and stretch film can cover this lower edge. Accordingly, both the lower and upper edges of the roll of paper can be wrapped with protective foam wrap and stretch film.

  • Patent number: 5129208
Abstract: A bale wrapping apparatus for a baler for large round bales. A rolled web of bale wrapping material is mounted at the rear of the baler. A pair of adjacent feed rollers frictionally grip a free end portion of the web. One or more web feeding belts are in driving engagement with at least one bale-forming belt of the baler. The web feeding belts power a control mechanism for the feed rollers. When a bale is formed in the baler, the feed rollers pull wrapping material off the roll and deposit it on the web feeding belts which carry it into the baling chamber where it is wrapped around the bale. A knife is actuated near the end of the wrapping to separate the web. A conventional twine-tie mechanism can be operated simultaneously with the bale wrapping apparatus and after the web has been separated so as to further secure the wrapping material about the bale.
